 A L I E N Prequel
30 years later...but now it's official. Sir Ridley Scott is going to return to sci-fi and direct the prequel to ALIEN!!! This is great news for me as I am a huge fan of the ALIEN films (well...1-3)...and not any of the horrendous AvP stuff. Ridley has directed some amazing films over the last 30 years but also a good bit of pretty mediocre stuff as well...hopefully he'll channel the Ridley that was really in the zone from '79 thru the 80's. The new film is supposedly a direct prequel to the original ALIEN and will tell more about what happened to the 'Space Jockey' and the Derelict spacecraft...as well as possibly seeing the ALIEN homeworld We'll see these guys walking around...though I'm a little concerned with the over-use of CGI... News: http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/jul/31/ridley-scott-alien-prequel

 Re: A L I E N Prequel
Well.....I have reservations (you covered them, Scott not doing much good lately and CGI-Fest) but it's still more interesting than more AVP's. I love 1-2, 3 & 4 are ok in their own ways, but not nearly as awesome. Hopefully it has more of the "thriller/horror" vibe 1 had vs. the "action" vibe of 2. I mean, it FIT great for 2, I just like the mood of 1 more.
Anyway, I'll probably sucker up and go. Unless some crap-heads like Angelina Jollie or Shea LeBouf are in it.

Actually I think they've already tapped Angelina to play the Space Jockey and Shia will play a young Captain Dallas...and of course Megan Fox will play the young Ripley. ...and it will be in 3-D

 Re: A L I E N Prequel
I'm definitely interested to see how this turns out.
I'm jumping up and down and camping out overnight for the first showing if Giger is involved (and gets proper credit) again.

TIGHT. I don't even care if it sucks, because a sucky Alien movie is still better than a good normal movie any day in my book.

Great news. I'm just hanging for 'Alien' to be released on Blu-ray. REdYOdA wrote: Oh hell yeah! If Scott gets Giger involved again than my hopes for this new Alien film will improve big time! And Ron Cobb. His concept drawings for Alien and Aliens are amazing. Giger, Cobb & Scott created the vision. In my opinion all the other spin offs were just chasing the green and lost track of that original vision. New movie could go either way.

Deadbone wrote: And Ron Cobb. I've been really looking forward to the Alien Blu Ray too...so actually this news was kind of bittersweet. I'm thinking that the studio will now wait until the new film nears release before the Blu of ALIEN becomes available...probably 2011. But who knows? Ron Cobb coming back would be amazing...but I seriously doubt we'll get the perfect storm. I would really love to see Cameron involved a bit too! RIP Jerry Goldsmith...now that would've been awesome!!

This is great news but I would rather have a real Blade Runner sequel/prequel any day. I can't count how many times I have seen BR. That movie was like my genesis. Great news nonetheless!!

 Re: A L I E N Prequel
Anything will seem far superior to the aliens vs predator garbage.
Alien was awesome. I still am amazed at the visuals from that movie because they still hold up. (Much like the original superman) Aliens was an excellent followup that clearly expanded the genre but I have severe reservations.
Ridley Scott did 1 Alien film with a great script...I have hope that he'll be able to expand in the prequel but I have reservations.

 Re: A L I E N Prequel
Ridley's been keeping an open mind about directing another Alien film for years...just nothing has come up that made him excited about re-visiting the Alien universe.
...Until the pitch for the Alien prequel by unknown screenwriter Jon Spaihts. After Spaihts pitched Ridley...he almost immediately agreed to direct and Alien 5 was greenlighted. Must have been a pretty awesome story idea.
Ridley's 71 years old now...and a very good shape 71, but maybe not too many more films will be coming out of him as a director. I'm imagining that he's really going to put a lot of heart into this new Alien film. The original is what gave him international fame and the ability to make Blade Runner.
I just got one of Spaihts other sci-fi scripts called 'Passengers'. I'm really anxious to read it and get a feel for his style.

 Re: A L I E N Prequel
AVP 2 I thought was amazing. I personally had never seen a movie where a guy literally rolled for 5 minutes over and off obstacles with a gimp leg to get to a chopper, it was the one of the best comedy's I saw that year.

Ridley's on a roll. "Brave New World" with Leo, to make the ladies pay attention.... http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/ ... WZ20090806NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Ridley Scott is going back to the futurism. The "Blade Runner" director is joining forces with Leonardo DiCaprio to take on one of the most highly regarded dystopian works of literature, Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World."

I thought Giger's original idea of the alien physiology was really creepy and strange then Cameron ground it into mince meat. I still like Aliens though. Great script.

 Re: A L I E N Prequel
I'd love to see Ridleys Brave New World....but hopefully Alien first!
I found it odd that he's directing Robin Hood...an interesting choice. Must have been a great script as this story has been told soo many times.

 Re: A L I E N Prequel
A modern day "Robbin Hood" would be a screaming winner. Better than the, "how to rob a bank" film with Johnny Depp.

I agree, I highly doubt Giger would attach his name to anything Alien related now. He got royally screwed with the sequels and AvP (especially after winning an Oscar for the first film). "As the years go on, it's doubtful Giger will be directly involved in any future Alien movies. After the problems he encountered with his screen credit in Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, he probably doesn't want to work for Fox again. Though Ridley Scott had expressed a few years ago that if they made an Alien 5 movie, he would go back to Giger to 'reinvent' the alien creature."

He might. I heard he is pretty down and out. He sits at a bar all day. And has sold a lot of his collection. I don't see how they can do anything alien related and not pay him. It is HIS creature right?

It is HIS creature right? Where did you hear that he is not doing well? I looked him up and he's had 2 exhibits already this year and recently appeared in the German Documentary Monsterland...which I'm anxious to check out though I've heard it is a bit unfocused: Monsterland explores the origins of monsters with interviews by many of the creators or actors that played them...such as the aforementioned Giger, AND Kenpachiro Satsuma (Godzilla, Hedora, Pulgasari) and legendary special effects director Teruyoshi Nakano plus more! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1305723/Actually it would be odd if Scott didn't at least try to get Giger on board...the new film is supposedly centered around the Space Jockey and will surely have at least one Alien, of which both were Giger designs...we have never seen the Space Jockey out of the chair though...I'm wondering if Giger had any designs of this creature walking about?
