He's gotten more expensive over the years.

I was pretty surprised to see that up there, but then someone stateside sold theirs, so scum is everywhere.

I don't mind davidborn so much because he doesn't mess about, he knows fully what he is doing and if some punter is dumb enough to buy off him and happy with getting ripped off, then he deserves it.

I kinda enjoy the more subtle marbling on the green, but agree with all of you that the guy's a dick. I hope no one is stupid enough to buy it.

$110. this is basically what it worked out to be from SB with the exchange rate as well.

right, so it cost $20 to ship it EMS, and with the crappy exchange I figure we lost $10.

equals out.

are you guys trying to justify the 299.99 + 29.99? So this is a good price?

No, I was comparing the price of the Japanese release with conversion rates vs. the NYCC release price.

Post Re: davidborn2007
It can be satisfying to think that people paying mad prices to flippers are suckers for doing it, but in the end the whole collectors' community is harmed because paying flippers keeps flippers in biz, and fewer pieces go to the right people for the right reasons.

I'm 100% with LD in spirit on this but regret that I'm resigned to pessimism on this topic. Sorry, I prefer to emphasize the positive, but there's always someone out there willing to pay whatever it takes to get something, and there is no shortage of pockets deep enough to do so without feeling suckered or feeling any real financial pinch.

It'd be great to think that a community-minded ethos would temper individual behavior such that collectors everywhere might think "I really want that thing, but I'm not going to buy it because that only perpetuates the flipper problem," but I now feel that this is just a wishful fantasy. I've seen the rationalizations (e.g. "flipper x is polite and always delivers the toys") and certain attitudes (e.g. "I want something that you don't have," "I NEED this toy no matter what it takes") expressed openly here over the years.

Plus. Uno. People were all "After conversion rates and shipping the SB direct ones are more" and loco was all "nuh uh check the tax" and I was all "and admission!" WURD!

please keep in mind that though you might see "sold" items on ebay that doesn't guarantee that the transaction took place.

A friend of mine bought the 1st Siamese that Civvic dude had. He ended up refunding the money because he got more money from someone else. These people have absolutely no integrity.

Post Re: davidborn2007
I'm never really sure if I'm paying "flipper" prices, to be honest.
I see something I want, and if I can afford it, I buy it. I pretty much only collect Pushead these days; some Skull Pirates cost me $40 while the one I'm considering buying next is $260. (here on the boards)

The $260 is no less rare than the IT'S A GIRL! Pirate, which I paid $120 for on the bay but have seen going for more than that here on the boards.... so why is it $260? Cause that's what the seller is charging for it. (To be clear, I'm absolutely not calling the seller a flipper, just comparing a price)

So... is it worth $260? With no definitive price list out there I'll never know.

I don't really know the big Pus collectors (Bob, Arin C) well, so I don't really feel comfortable sending them (re: bugging them) with a "did I pay too much for this?" message.

Maybe in the future I should put the prices I paid for things on my Pushead blog, just to at least have a list of what something is going for at a given time.

I think there is a big difference in selling something for $260 if you paid that or close to it.
I'm upset with the fact that this item was just released for 9240 yen and it's listed at 299.99. Just a little shitty. I know a few board members that said they couldn't get their order placed.
So what this douche does and instantly lists it as a 3 x's the price FLIP!!

If an item is rare/old whatever I can see the value going up, but this :?

I miss the days of Pus (et al) combating flippers. Remember when someone posted a stumpy on ebay and then like within 24 hours some were posted up straight from the source!?

i totally get what you're saying; and I agree.
It's just that I've been thinking a lot about this lately.
I'm selling a bunch of Western Vinyl on one of my blogs- older, rarer stuff that's currently "worth" several times what I paid for it... and I'm charging 'retail'. And I've been getting messages from folks saying things like "what's the catch?" because people are conditioned now to think of this stuff as an investment.

And yeah, despite getting my Siamese Pus from him at NYCC, I tried to get one of the SB ones and didn't get it due to douchey flippers.
