Re: comics?
Howard the Duck is amazing. GI Combat (the older issues) also amazing. Old Morbius issues written by some of the same Howard writers=amazing.
for newer stuff, i've only recently read The Helm. good, fun, quick read. well done art, i think by bart sears

Re: comics?
What's good currently super hero wise? I get sick by mega-events so I stopped reading a lot of hero stuff. I'm tempted to go back and read House of M-Civil War-Invasion etc. but I know what happens so I feel like I'd not be interested. Same goes with DC's mega-crapvents. I just don't know where to pick up anymore, it all turns me off so much and I've read the "classics" like a million times through. I like DC and Marvel BTW, so I don't care, I'm just bored and going to a C2E2 soon so I wanna plan what cheap-o trades to scoop up.

Re: comics?
well, i like megacrapvents so i'm not too much help here. but... Justice Society of America's One World Under Gog if that is collected in trade format, it's an excellent story! i believe gaiman's batman/detective comics 'whatever happened to the caped crusader?' is out on trade paperback, and that is pretty good. like i mentioned earlier, batman: cacophony and batman: the widening gyre are both good reads. the 8 issue Mystery In Space from a couple years back is great, if you like cosmic stuff. Also: Rann/Thanagar Holy War 1-8, & Strange Adventures 1-8 are follow-ups to that mini series. they all kind of bleed into one epic story, but can each be read as stand alone series. can't help much with the marvel realms...

Dude, if you want to read a super hero book thats worth your hard earned cash, pick up invincible from image comics. Its written by Robert Kirkman of Walking Dead fame and is in to the 60's issue wise. Its pretty self contained with only one story line that involved another book. The art is high quality super hero stuff, just as good or better than any of Marvels top guys. They have trades and hard back collections out . If I only had to read onecomic book for the rest of my life this would be it.

Re: comics?
Oh crap I forgot about that series, I love Kirkman! I totally passed it over and have been forgetting about it thanks! I've read "Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader?" too, loved it. I also never got the newer Madman series, gotta look into that.
I love Marvel and DC's characters, but I feel like they've been waisting time/energy on them with these god damned "mega- events" it's so annoying. Why? They always act like whatever just happened that was huge, DIDN'T! If someone dies, they come back, if someone becomes good ro bad, they switch again. Lame. No real consequences for these characters actions. Remember when Wolverins decapitated Magneto? Oh that wasn't him, it was a clone. Know what would've been better? If Magneto actually died! It would have made crap way more interesting vs. just having it be some clone or imposter or whatever they did.

I loved when they let Allred go crazy with X-Force/X-Statix. But then they discontinued it because Marvel started sucking again. That and New X-men was awesome for 12 issues, and then back to same ol' same ol'.

Re: comics?
all good points BD6969. as for characters dying, i'm tired of it. it seems that any "event" that takes place is judged cool or not cool depending on the death toll involved. i like super hero stuff where no one dies. but sometimes stuff stays dead. as far as i remember, the planet Xanshi is still dead/destroyed since john stewart's fuck-up in cosmic oddysey. if it helps to build a good story, i am fine with bringing the dead back to life. sure beats another "reimagining" of some characters origin! i hate origins!

I also hate constant life/death/reimagining changes in super heroes comics but I really hope they come around and unfuck Gwen soon. This Osborn twins move was a total nonsense.

Re: comics?
Has anyone read or looked through El Eternauta? I like the art and the story sounds fun. Quote: El Eternauta is a sprawling tale that begins with aliens sending a toxic snowfall onto humanity, a devastating attack followed up by their unleashing of bizarre, remotely mind controlled creatures to mop up the survivors. Survivors, who, thanks to the damage wrought on the environment, can now only venture out doors in specially constructed bio-hazard suits. It was first published in 1957 to 1959 in Argentina. I am not sure if it has ever been translated to english but still...

Also this... Superman: The Story of the Man of Steel looks Fantastic! The artist seems really familar. I can't wait to check this out. It looks like some of the best Superman illustrations since the Fleischer Superman cartoons.

Re: comics?
that superman looks very ed mcguinness-ish.so, is that a new superman work, or reprinting vintage stuff? i don't really care much for vintage super hero stuff. the artwork is always good. but cops and robbers style stories bore me to death.

Re: comics?
the comics industry is a train wreck (indie aside) at the moment, just buy lots of good 80's and 90's stuff in trade paperbacks cheap and effective, they have a howard the duck omnibus that is like 2 phone books crammed together, my advice on the big events is to wait for trades and hit 1/2 price books I always scrounge great trades, still waiting to see how bad disney botches up owning marvel, albeit I would not be upset to see a hulk vs stitch crossover, also howard has shown up in a few strange places including some doctor who comics and generation x

I need to do a bit of research and see what other languages it has been translated into. My french is worse than my spanish. Another artist that I have been getting back into is Gary Gianni. His "Corpus Monstrum" series is fantastic!
