My thoughts exactly. Cross-franchise products like that are so forced and lame but brilliant from a marketing standpoint. Hmm, what's popular now and what will always be popular -- Let's put them together! I'm sure the kids will love it and parents will buy the crap out of it. So gross.

Just when one thought that the franchise could not sink any lower. :?

Disney buys Lucasfilm, plans Star Wars Episode 7 by 2015

There is substantial pent up something, that's for sure. Oh well, from one marketing machine to an even bigger one. The silver lining here is they have no attachment to the special editions, but knowing him, GE probably had that stipulated into the sales agreement.

my god... it's FULL of ewoks!

...

okay, now that we're all done reeling over how much worse the franchise will be (actually, could it get much worse? this may possible even help...),
it will be interesting to see how disney will start utilizing ILM as their effects house.

Yes, SW and MOTU are so tired... If I see another Boba Fett rip or furry He-Man shorts I'll throw up. I love vintage toys... but the relentless influence has ruined it for me.

Agreed, if anything giving it someone who isn't Lucas almost guarantees less of a turd.
Unless we're talking Michael Bay of course.

I thought the updated Star Tours at Disneyland was pretty good when we visited last Christmas. They should just make the movies like that, but longer. Imagine if there were 11 versions of a film playing at random, so you wouldn't know which one you would wind up seeing before you were in there. (Granted, Ewok version would suck.)

if it makes you feel better, she is probably just a stock photo. doesn't appear to actually be wearing the product.

I want to see crossovers in other disney owned properties. Boba Fett should be in the next Avengers.

^ Maybe they will see this and your dream will come true. Until then, Chewie will be in the next Muppets movie.

Skepticism and cynicism about the acquisition are fully justified, but I'm going to take a "we'll see" attitude about the proposed future films. Given that some fantasy franchises have been revived and rebooted with some degree of style and class, some part of me, probably the inner child who loved SW wants to believe that even tired old Star Wars can be revisited intelligently and entertainingly. Unrealistic? Possibly, but given how disappointing the prequel trilogy was, maybe it's a good thing that Uncle George won't be directing future installments?

If nothing else, The Empire Strikes Gold.

Post Re: Sick of Star Wars
you see how it all came together with the avengers for Marvel? Imagine the same thing, but in reverse for SW. I can very well see "Han Solo: Bounty" or "Obi and Anakin: the lost years" Disney is good at making franchises thrive and sell them well.

The problem to me is that, as a fan of the films not the franchise, it breaches a gap when these are being released as more marketing tie-ins for the merchandise. Sure, the first three films had the same thing happen and ever since it has been just a milking of the golden cow. But it was based off a great film trilogy, with superb lines and very well written and directed, something that Lucas has not been able to replicate since.

Since I dont see anyone making bladerunner coffee mugs for sale with every bigmac, why should another great sci-fi saga be thrown under the bus. Iuno, Lucas has been doing his thing for years. At this point in the game, my love for SW is only there as the nostalgia and doors that it opened for me in regards to the medium and genre.

Anything would be better than the last three movies but I keep thinking..about Disney.

I can't think of one Disney movie (non-animated) that I've liked in the last 10 years.

I disagree. It's just as valid to be happy about this. You know you're going to go see the movies.

I think it's a little closer to "fuck your mother", I know there are some Spanish speakers here, speak up and teach please! Dirty words are always fun to learn. :)

yeah, I speak spanish. While the words themselves translate to "Fucking Mother", the connotation is that of someone that says "damnit" "fucken-a" or something of the sort when we get screwed over.
