Vastly different than the Spector take, but another December staple in my homes has been Mr. John Fahey's nimble fingers working through the Christmas and New Year's standards:

One of the best things about loving music and getting older is you acquire so much music you essentially become your own radio station. I love that I can go into my itunes and "re-discover" songs I haven't played in years. While these Velvet Underground have definitely been played in last few years it's been awhile so that rush feeling happens all over:

^ I'm like a flipping Deadhead when it comes to the Velvet Underground - I carry around a crate of live tapes wherever I roam - except that, unlike the denizens o' Jerry, I'd never force you to listen to the muddyass things if you have the look in your eyes that I get whenever someone brings up Garcia's garbagefaeries... don't get me started on Phishpholk...
ANYWAY, any time of day is great for any version of What Goes On, from 5 minutes in studio to 9 at Max's to 27 at the Boston Tea Party, so thanks for the share. A favorite jam for years.

Yeah parents whio grew up on 80's music will do that to you. I actually want to have a kid so I can mold him or her with good music, books, film, science etc. If you like the Smiths I recommend this set (you can find it on ebay cheaper). Every Smiths song ever- and they don't have a stinker of a song:

Smiths did the good work, no doubt. I always wanted the line to be I am the sun and the air, though...
I spent a significant chunk of my '80s and '90s ducking the popular music, only to have the nostalgia revival (too fricking soon!) in the aughts bite me in my ass. Had to stop leaving the house!
