My favorite oldskool hamburgers in San Francisco are at Joe's Cable Car in the Excelsior District. The place is seriously lost in time. Not nostalgic or retro, not "nouvelle," but THERE. Stuck in the 60s. It's tacky as all get-out inside but that's part of the fun, and the freshly-ground burgers totally deliver.

They really want you to know that Joe is on the job.

It's all about the payoff. Mmmm.

I hope you'll like them Kirkland. If you like milkshakes, theirs are "real."

this weekend my plan is to try out Intellegentsia. i'll see if it lives up to the hype.

and next trip to SF will include Blue Bottle

I've been to Intelligentsia 3 times and haven't liked it yet. I'm a daily quad shot Iced Americano drinker and their stuff is just too light for me.

I have had Blue Bottle in the Ferry Terminal and it was pretty good. I heard the Cafe is better since they have a more elaborate system there. I need to try that next time.

For beans, I order from Caffe D'Arte in Seattle. Awesome stuff.

For years, it as been a couple shots of Lavazza's Qualita Rossa each morning that get me going.
Low acidity, great chocolate smell and taste.
