Re: Game of Thrones
So they just pushed back the release of the A Dance with Dragons paperback by seven whole months.
I see amazon.co.uk resellers are selling a version that *seems* to be a one-volume paperback. But not amazon.co.uk direct. Looks fishy. Anyone knows if it's genuine?

Re: Game of Thrones
Can't be real. What I'm reading is that the booksellers want to unload a lot of more hardcover (which are still selling like wildfire) before the paperbacks show up and lower the margins. Late March 2013, damn, though.
This is the week I get A Dance with Dragons from the public library, yeah.

Re: Game of Thrones
So who's ready for season 3? Just in time as WD ends Sunday (well I watch everything on Monday anyway). I ordered seasons 1 & 2 on DVD the other day to catch up. No cable so I'm going to have to watch season 3 bootleg pirate style.

Re: Game of Thrones
Just finished watching season 2 again to refresh my memory so pretty excited for this one. Supposedly one of the more popular characters gets killed off this season. Any guesses?
Edit: Guess you'd already know if you read the books so no spoilers! So basically my question was directed at those who hasn't read them.

Re: Game of Thrones
Just finished watching the first two seasons again myself. Gave up on waiting for a paperback of the fifth book (which was pushed back AGAIN now to the end of October - mook 2 style!) and reserved a copy at the library.
As for who dies... Hohoho. Let's just say depending on how far they get, a good, hmm, four people we know well will die? If they go far, I count seven off the top of my head.

Re: Game of Thrones
Read somewhere that the latest book has taken longer than 6 years to write so they might have to conclude the hbo series before the next book ( which i'm assuming would be the last ) is finished. petitetoilonrouge wrote: Just finished watching the first two seasons again myself. Re: Game of Thrones
I've watched the first two seasons as they came out and loved 'em. I've finally got round to reading the books . . . . just finished the first one and now I'm onto A Clash of Kings.
Its weird doing it that way round because i cant help but picture the actors faces when I'm reading the books!

Re: Game of Thrones
There's actually two books left. They're splitting the third book in two seasons, and I can see them doing that for the other books too... So who knows, it might work out!

Yup. And the next book was supposed to be included with the last book - but it got so long that GRRM decided to split it into two books. So it should be mostly done.

I think it rocks. I'm just sort of bummed because I haven't read the fifth book yet and they're including parts of that book in there...

Re: Game of Thrones
I'm typing on the iPad so this stylus didn't type the 'n' I meant to say 'never'. Anyhow yeah me too, never read the books, just enjoying the ride. I realize the first two episodes were going to be sort of slow to set up all the season plot lines but I'm sure G.O.T. will not fail with more shocking moments later.

Same here, stopped reading the books after the first volume to enjoy the show and will eventually catch up but so far I'm loving season three. Wargs are great and so far plenty of great scenes in each episode.

Re: Game of Thrones
You know who I feel the worst for on Game of Thrones? Theon Greyjoy. Guy just wants to be loved but is so insecure about he relationship with the Starks, and his own crazy ass family he just keeps getting himself in more trouble by the minute. I'm scratching my head at who these buggers were who captured him? And who the hell is helping him escape each time? I love Robb. I wish he'd go to Kings Landing and torture Joeffrey before slicing his head off and throwing it the queens lap.

Re: Game of Thrones
Really loving this season so far . . . . great to see Ciarán Hinds, Mackenzie Crook, Paul Kaye and Clive Russell join the story. Excellent casting

So far I've found Ciaran Hinds an unlikely Mance... maybe because he made such a good Caeser in Rome!

Re: Game of Thrones
I kinda have to agree, Ciaran Hinds is an amazing actor, but not how I pictured a good Mance to be. I would say generally the casting has been a bit weaker this season, but I also find that it is really all over the place. With each passing season they seem to be taking more liberties and drifting more and more away from following the books closely. I still think the show is the best thing on television, just not as good as I was hoping it might be. *but still pretty damn awesomeI have also been surprised at the pace of the events unfolding in just these three episodes, as it seems crazy fast, especially if this season is actually only supposed to be half of the book. But of course, all of this commentary is only relevant to folks who have read them.

Re: Game of Thrones
^^ Yeah, I'm only at the start of the second book so the differences don't affect me. So far season three has been a real blast . . . the pace has picked up quite a bit i agree. I'm really enjoying it. I'm probably biased with the casting . . . its great to see so many English / Irish actors in a HBO production again.
Mackenzie Crook and Paul Kaye are always fun . . . i hope their characters get plenty of screen time.

Re: Game of Thrones
Season three has definitely been quite fast paced so far. I read them all in a row pretty much so each book blurred into the next one. I find it hard to remember what happens in each one!
