Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
Saw it a couple of days ago and it was amazing! My only gripe is that it was too short.. Good thing is that I heard Del Toro has over an hour worth of extra footage that wasn't used (chances are the majority of that will be human related/character development stuff though)

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
Wow, this release seems to truly be going well!
When I 1st found out the Guillermo was behind this project, I had Really high hopes, cause he's an amazing visionary, especially in the world or "creatures", so I'm thrilled to hear (or rather read) all of these positives about Pacific Rim... Here's hoping I can see it in the theaters (tentacles crossed)!
Question for those who've seen it: Is it true that he gives credit to Ishiro Honda and Ray Harryhausen at the end, or is this a silly rumor?
... Also, It's hard to believe that all dai kaiju fans aren't amped to see Pacific Rim. I mean, if you're gonna hate it, shouldn't it be post-watch for us?

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
My son and I just returned from an IMAX 3D viewing and we both had a great time. Of course there is a bit of Hollywood fluff but overall a kickass. I only wish it was a tv series so I could see more fights with a greater variety of both robots and monsters, in all sorts of settings.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
Dear almighty. This movie was in-freaking-sane! Basically Jurassic Park meets Godzilla meets Transformers meets Independence Day with a dash of Speed Racer. Add some Muscle Milk, Red Bull and motor oil, in you are in for a ride. Best summer blockbuster I've seen in years! Those fight sequences might have been my favorite things in cinema I've seen in a long time. Jaw-dropping intensity!

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
I took my wife and kid to see it at a later showing last night, we all liked it, I loved it! Any fan of the genre will see different hints at classic robots. I especially liked the fight scenes of course. The monster designs were pretty awesome, the early crude ones were my favorite- Knifehead was cool. Seeing it in 2D was a little weird, it seemed like a lot of the scenes were set up just for 3D purposes, nobody was whapping a paddleball at the camera, but some stuff like that .
I think it'd be fair to say anybody on SB would enjoy themselves seeing it. My wife teased me that I may go see it a bunch of times, I think she was right!

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
I liked that the fights looked like real fights. The physics, energy, timing and moves are all really well thought-out. There is some shaky cam, but it's not used as a cop-out as in so many other films. More just to emphasize that the Kaiju and Jaegers are BIG. Del Toro's eye for detail really pays off.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
I went into this movie with big expectations because I had been excited for the release ever since I first heard about it. After seeing the movie I came out of the theater not disappointed in the least. The action was really good and you could actually follow the fights and see what was going on unlike some action movies. The 3D was among the best I've seen in a local theater and I really enjoyed the story too. I might go back and see the movie again in the theater if my friend doesn't see it without me this weekend. This is a definite must buy movie upon release to bluray.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
the rumors are true...he nailed it. go big, go 3D imax while you can...
there's some tiny things i could nitpick over, but considering he took a hollywood blockbuster budget and made a ripping flick that doesn't insult the audience - 2 big kaiju thumbs up. it doesn't feel exposition heavy at all...well paced, with just enough character backstory to keep the audience invested.
can't wait for all the extra dvd footage, omg.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
The pre-screening I went to was in 3D. I normally wear glasses, so wearing glasses on glasses was annoying as hell, but very much worth it. If you've yet to see it in 3D and intend on seeing this film a second time, definitely opt out.
I heard that Del Toro is already talking about a possible sequel where the world is still under attack and the humans use the drift to make kaiju the weapon instead of Jaegers. So it'd be kaiju vs kaiju.

Ok for a four-year old? The trailer looked sort of scary...

petitetoilonrouge wrote: Ok for a four-year old? Not a huge fan of 3d so I opted out on that, but I thought the film was still visually amazing, and the fight scenes were perfect. Story was was decent, definitely worth seeing.

Saw it last night, and it lives up to the hype. When they do close-ups on the Jaegers the level of detail is amazing. Also a few hidden gems for the fans.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
I loved it. Exactly what I wanted: giant robots fighting giant monsters, and it delivered. Upset that the other Jaegers didn't get as much screen time. I guess I just wish it was longer. Apparently a drawn manga and a sequel has already been greenlit.

So are there ANY downsides to it? The trailer didn't impress me; looked like pretty generic kids entertainment (is there an "for adults" cut of it?).

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie
Saw it in IMAX 3D as well. Very entertaining. Some great fight scenes with the Kaiju and Jaegers.
2 small gripes:
1) A couple of the fight scenes were pretty hard to follow. Felt too close, and there was so much action on the screen, my eyes could not focus on anything. I found myself thinking, " Zoom out! Zoom out!" Especially that first fight scene with the boat.
2) I was hoping for a little more variety from the Kaiju. Seemed like the majority of them had that split open face and jaw, a-la Predator. There was little variation in color, etc. Knife head and the flying guy were the best.
Overall, I thought it was big, loud, in-your-face fun. Like Kaiju should be.

Hope we get more movies and then they make up excuses to diversify them.

The only thing that slightly annoyed me was the excessive repetition of the word "kaiju." I totally agree with you on this. I LOVED this movie but it was a bit over the top using the word, Kaiju so many times throughout the movie. When the DVD comes out I can see a Kaiju Drinking game come to life and a shit ton of drunks running rampant in the streets! Other gripes I had and I can't shake them. I thought the actress who played Mako Mori was really bad. I mean no life to her at all and she was so monotone. I couldn't get past that and believe she was the character she was supposed to be. I don't remember her from anything else but I just didn't like her. I thought the younger version of her was WAY better than the present version. Charlie Hunnam - While I like him as an actor, I COULD NOT get Jax out of my mind. Especially how he walks with such Swagger. His walk, which may just be how he walks, in Pacific Rim was exactly the same as in SOA. It may be nitpicky but just how I feel. The entire time he was on screen I was thinking Jax is fighting Japanese Kaiju! Only thing missing was his cut! And finally, does anyone else think Charlie Day is the next Rick Moranins? Honey I Shrunk the Kids remake with Charlie Day? I thought C.D. was great and loved him as the insane doctor! He really stole the movie in my mind. Glad he is getting parts in more movies and look forward to seeing more of him! This movie was great, popcorn fun and I HIGHLY recommend it, and hardly ever say this... Go see it in 3D!

To fight monsters we created monsters? I guess "To fight monsters we created robots" just doesn't sound cool enough.
