C'mon an hour and a half, lame, and where did all those zombies come from? They just appeared out of thin air. They were traveling in the direction that they all came from, a cut scene to a bunch of zombies coming out of the woods would have helped. Dissapointment, hopefully next weeks episode will be better.

The show's so slow all you wish they'd do is start shooting and trigger an actual action scene. Just finished it... decent atmosphere, and a couple of really tense moments, but it doesn't seem to have any momentum overall, as demonstrated by 90% of the runtime being within a 100ft radius area.

Yeah. The length of time it took them just to peak into the tent was annoying in itself. 1st half was pretty good aside from the magically appearing zombie hoard. 2nd half was boring. I join others in hoping the action picks up.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I think having a year time really really hurt the Walking Dead because the expectation level was HUGE. Especially to those who haven't read the books.
I think everyone wanted an epic first episode much like it was when Season 1 came out. But if you've read the comics... come on...get to the prison..introduce Michone and the Governor for fucks sake. We need the Governor!
I don't think this will go down and suffer from second series syndrome but this episode was just 'ok' for me. Still way better then 95% of the shit that comes out today though.
For anyone who hasn't read the comics. Read 1-7. It'll blow your mind. At least Read the first trade. For 9 bucks you can see the differences that take place.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the opening episode of the second season. Part of me is deliberately avoiding the comics for the purpose of avoiding the obvious comparison. The first season struck me as a little hurried at times, so the slower pacing is just fine. I watched the daytime marathon of season one, and the events just seem frenetic at times when you see the episodes back-to-back. Dunno. Maybe I'm just easy to please.
And all of you that read the comics, STOP TALKING ABOUT FUTURE EVENTS. Chrissakes. I want Merle's fate to be a surprise. Lalalalallala.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I've really been enjoying this series, including the season 2 opener. I read some of the comics long enough ago that I can't really remember what happened. So, any differences with the original aren't jumping out at me. I did notice some things that bug me a little bit concerning how the zombies behave in relation to accepted zombie lore/biology. This assumes that the zombie outbreak is related to a virus that replicates itself using the zombie as part of it's lifecycle. Why would the walker that they opened up have a woodchuck in it's gut? Was it quick enough to catch a live woodchuck? Did it eat roadkill? The zombies shouldn't have any attraction to anything dead or to eachother. That raises another issue for me stemming from the "Everything dies" webisodes. Why would the neighbor's zombie kids eat his dead body in the basement? He was already dead and he was already infected. That being said, I'm glad the little zombie kids did eat their father's corpse because the flash shot of them in their party hats was a priceless moment in the zombie genre. None of this stuff really bothers me or ruins my enjoyment of the show but I love to think about the imagined workings of the zombie virus. Just as an afterthought, why all the dead bodies in the traffic pileup from the season 2 premier? If they were killed by zombies they should have reanimated. I could see some bodies from people killed by other people or in accidents, or suicides but why so many? Creep factor? Anyone have any nerdly thoughts on this?

Alex my inner nerd tells me that these people were as you said a) killed in an accident and suffered massive head trauma (no brain reactivation because brain was smashed) or b) suicide- with gunshot to brain or c) My theory- looks like it could have been a police or military checkpoint at one point and the military went buck wild like they did in the hospital from season 1.

I feel the same way, after the long long break and all the drama with production I remembered how bad the first season really was over all (a few stand out moments and a great pilot but...) and how much I liked the comics, and I just gave up and didn't bother. It sucks, but it has zombies in it. It can definitely use more zombies though

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
My inner nerd is talking to me a lot today, and he says: "Comic world is pretty much anything goes, which is what made the comic so good. TV show you have to please everyone, including sponsors, so writing gets edited, watered down, people who formerly die get to stay (Shane) to have the bizarre love triangle aspect etc etc" Basically sometimes these shows are made because they know they have a core audience in place and are easy to market to (I include myself in this statement), partner it up with the up an coming edgy AMC= wonder hit (despite poor writing). It's no surprise the show is doing well just we as smart people know it could be so much better. On a lighter note this was hysterical: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/1 ... 16051.html

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I thought last night's episode was really well written. Dialog was ten times better than the 1st episode. Still very tense even without the walkers in it as much or even when the focus was not on the Carl situation. The last part with the closing shot on that screw was great. Shane is in quite a pickle. This is supposedly the first episode that does not have Darabont's imprint on it. I like it.
I love flashbacks to pre-apocalypse times also. One thing I'd like to see more of is backstory on all the characters, not just Rick, Lori, and Shane. I know there has been a lot of comparison of this show to Lost, but I don't see how that is a bad thing. That was a well written show. Especially that first season where the main focus would be on a different set of characters each week. I'd like to have more investment in every character in the group rather than just the leads. Makes for great TV when something happens to one of them rather than just a bit player offed or gone bad.

Yes I've have all the hardcover volumes 1-7 and have read them several times, I'm not following your question though? No kidding no one is safe, how does it relate to my hopes of flashbacks on the show? You do realize the show is not following the comic scene for scene right?

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I was just commenting on your final thought, what made the comics gripping for me was that all the players were major players, and that didn't mean they weren't going to get killed. I stopped watching after the first season, mostly because I realize a successful network show can't be as unpredictable and violent as the comics were.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I think due to it being on a major network and obviously a film adaption never working, certain aspects of the comic are going to be compromised. On one hand it saddens me a little but on the other hand it keeps me on my feet not knowing what exactly the writers are planning. I try to look at the show and comic as two separate entities or it sets me up for disappointment. I mean it would be great if the show was an hour and half uninterrupted and they could delve into all those other 'major players' throughly but I know due to time constraints they can't.
All I was thinking is they did do short backstories once in awhile on the other characters it would make it a little more interesting as we'd have screen time investment in the tv character versions and it would make them not seem like bit players in the Lori Shane Rick show.

Tonights episode looks like it's going to be pretty intense, well at least for Shane it's going to be really intense. Haven't seen it yet but I've already pieced it together what exactly will happen.

Yeah, definitely seems like it's going to make up for the lack of zombie carnage so far this season.
