i appreciate the fact someone would be honest and willing to provide critique but there are glaring problems on this board (and probably message boards in general)

the critiques on here are often nasty, rude, etc.

when someone asks for input on a design/artwork or whatever in real life, you dont stare at them with giant eyes ... insult them... tell them to give up completely... tell them to go back to school... and i have seen all of that here. you designers out there see a store with a shitty comic sans logo- you don't go inside and tell the owner he is a dumbass and should just close shop immediately.

when someone is given a keyboard and a faceless screenname, evidently they are given carte blanche to piss on anyone they please?? it's easy to be an asshole when all you have to do is close the window instead of face the person back

and more often than not, these territorial pissings come whether or not they are asked for or not.

if someone wants a critique on their work, it can be offered up without being a dick about it. tell them what you dont like or how you would like to see it. make fun of a crap toy all you want, but when someone is asking for input on something they created with their own hands, i think a little diplomacy can go a long way here.

all the bickering and name calling gets old fast

Well said....oh and dont mind me ,,I'm just waiting for page ten..This should be made into an HBO mini series :P

something I want to address in this thread right now is rudeness

why is everyone making out being rude to be such a horrible thing? sometimes it's fun and funny and great.

I would argue for more civility, not less.

Isn't it very self-centered to argue in favor of being rude because the person being rude gets off on it? The person who is the target of the rudeness might not enjoy it quite so much. And responding to rudeness with rudeness usually just leads to both people screaming at each other even louder, with veins bulging and spittle flying.

I personally would not be interested in being a member of a community where rudeness is accepted as a positive attribute.

Rudeness is not awesome. It sucks.

You argue that it is self-centered to be rude or direct.

You also argue that it's fine for someone to take an ultra rare figure and fuck it up with a amateur paint job. By taking that ultra rare figure and fucking it up, isn't that a clear case of self-centeredness?

The owner of that figure is basically giving the middle finger to everyone in the scene. Instead of releasing that figure back into the scene to someone who would really appreciate it in its original state, the owner is so self-absorbed and selfish that he/she puts their shallow need for attention before others.

I'll call bullshit on that. Every time I've been to NY (or Philly, for that matter) people have been nothing if not completely cool to me. Granted, there's little of the "After YOU, sir" attitude, but everyone is more than helpful with even the stupidest of questions. Come to Milwaukee some time and you'll see rude.

That said, I completely agree with your point - that people tend to mistake directness for rudeness. I used to get a lot of flak from reviews and articles I did when I was writing for music magazines, because I wouldn't mince words. As I see it, honesty IS the best policy, and if that offends anyone, tough.

You had me until the last sentence. If you encounter rudeness in Milwaukee, it's because we're still letting FIBs through the border.

I use crosswalks as a gauge: NY...I was in the financial district and a friggin' school bus almost took me out on my walk signal. Chicago, it's a crapshoot. You takes your chances. Seattle on the other hand...I have no doubt people would stop if I crossed against the light. LA is an entirely different creature...

The worst I've encountered? Tokyoites on bicycles. Don't fuck with them...they WILL run your ass over. In swarms too....first one hits you and the rest finish the job!

I was finally begining to read this and saw this.

The answer is "FUCK NO!!!!"

But anyways, this thread is really long and getting confusing to me. Toybot started to ask a question about deleted threads, then came SBxKR war, and then came about custome painting, and then came .........see...I don't get it.
Lets just all get along and enjoy the summer sun and clear our vinyls and go to Disneyland.....or somewhere where you can be a kid again. For me it's my mind........I day dream too much.....now this post is getting nowhere and meaning nothing. Sorry..... Have a great week. :)

I guess I'm just going by the personal friendliness meter - face-to-face, as it were. I say hello to everyone I pass on the street, and here I get a blank stare or an odd look.

Crosswalks - good lord, I'm terrified of all of 'em. I generally just run.

I'm from Chicago and live in GA now. If I'm walking down the street and someone I don't know says 'Hi' they get an awkward glance from me and a delayed even more awkward half assed wave back on a good day. I don't think I'm being rude, I'm being honest and that person is being weird. I don't know them, why are they talking to me? I don't do anything mean, but at the same time I don't do anything nice either. Maybe it's because where I grew up after a stranger says 'hi' there's a 'nice shoes, give em' to me fucker' to follow?

I came here from KR, so did the boards creator, Lord Isaac.

Its not where your from , its where your at!

Remember when Isaac and Cesar faked that fight on KR?when they said they were going to meet up at Toytokyo and duke it out in front of the store? If you do, then you can rest easy because that means you are OLD SCHOOL, RFSO, and DOWN WITH OPK(other peoples Kaiju)

The Illuminatti is watching /0\

well, a lot of my last post there was tongue-in-cheek, but I forgot that people around here don't understand sarcasm either  I don't always really think being rude is awesome. maybe just some of the time. and I don't think all East Coasters are really rude, just some. I'm actually very nice a good portion of the time. ask around.

Stuck in on Saturday night and VH1 have a metal special on - just saw the video for "Rainbow in the Dark" by DIO.

Crap yet awesome!

Man was that guy ugly, skinny and small...with bad clothes...gives us all hope eh?

Oh the thread...haven't read any of it much - looks like teh same old arguments repeated by new people and old people.

Half teh people who act like assholes behind their keyboards turn out to be OK when u meet them. The power of semi-annonymity! Use it wisely, cos we all get to meet eventually. I myself prefer good vibes.

Now, back to AC/DC

edit: Point of Entry era Priest vid - wow, Rob looks HOT in those TITE pantz.....

edit2: Every Rose Has it's Thorn -can it get much better?????

I'll take that idea one step further. every person that I perceived as a real ass on this board turned out to be a reasonable person via pms, email or phone.

except for Glenn. he's pretty much the same in real life.....
