Looks fun, especially if you've got a kid. One of the best things about having a son is being able to relive a lot of these childhood pleasures.
I like the Steve McQueen reference in the trailer though. Nice touch. Leads me to believe there may be other similar references, making it fun for the older crowd.

The fact that everyone seems divided on the board means I MUST see it. I think it looks different, and I like different. If Chim Chim's in I'm in.

I think the casting looks good (the kid looks like Speed), and I don't think you could handle this any other way than to lay it on thick. I'm looking forward to it... Sorry guys I agree with loco. This looks like great fun ! I like how it has those anime like fast like moving backrounds. Good stuff !
Speed lines yeah! Looks ok, it looks like it'll walk the line of cartoony and over-serous feel without being cheesy like the real show.

not to be a hater, but it wasn't quite as cool as I remember it when I was 5 years old. i'm gonna bust it out again though and give it another chance.

I'm not sure if I would go see it. I'll probably rent it once it comes out, but the graphics kinda reminds me of the live movie Cutie Honey that came out a few years ago in Japan.
Also, heard rumor that they are working on a live action Dragon Ball movie, American Ver. I wish they don't cause I grew up with that anime and manga and seeing it get fucked up will make me sad..........

That's like watching the very early episodes of Tetsuwan Atom. You know you loved it growing up, but can't seem to enjoy it now. That's how I am with some earlier anime (we're talking 70's here). I love Mazinger Z and Gatchaman, but I can't watch more than a couple of episodes without doing something else.
I think the biggest problem with this Speed Racer movie will be that they are trying to bring the cartoon to real life and so it's on the edge and trying to be both instead of trying to be really good at one. If you look at the Dick Tracy movie with Madonna and...umm...that guy, or The Mask, I think those were done really well, and even Roger Rabbit (but in RR's case, there was a clear line between real and cartoon). On mocoloco's suggestion, I will go see it with low expectations and just might be pleasantly surprised.

I think the only thing that might save this is Stephen Chow is the producer. He's been really consistent, as far as I know. If anything can save it, it will be him.

The cartoon rocks, I leave it on as I do other stuff, its not enthralling and captivating probably because I have watched all the episodes a lot but I still really like it, the race scenes are worth it, they are to speed racer what the fight scenes are in DBZ
