So sorry to hear about your dog. I would be completely depressed if something like that happened to separate me from my cat.

At least you know you did the best you could to ensure that she'll be well taken care of.

I don't mean to be a dick. I'm sure you love your dog. Life is hard. Good Luck. Seriously.

My sincerest condolences to you & her both for each having to give up a companion of 6 years...the 3 day thing is B.S. Glad at least you were able to find a good shelter w/ people that care. May all of her biscuits taste sweeter, and all of your memories be good ones! Stay strong.

hmmmm, you or someone you live with doesn't have a life threatening disease do they? such as HIV or cancer, becasue here in SF (i dont know if this is true for the whole state or not) you cannot be forced into getting rid of any companion animal if you have such a diagnosis whether or not the landlord approves or not.

maybe you could get your doctor to give you a fake diagnosis of something, i mean people do it here all the time, not to keep animals but more to get memberships in one of the pot clubs. something to think about.

sorry to hear of your loss. i lost my girl of 17 years a couple years back and it was the hardest thing i've ever been thru. i'm just about to the point i think i may get another and my landlord doesn't allow pets so i cant wait to pull this clause on him. hehe!

Somehow this part cuts me up the most.
You have my deepest sympathies.

And I'll pay for your back up bat, I'll make sure it's steel.

I have 2 cats and will never move somewhere I can't take them, on occasion that has meant looking for flats 6 months in advance.
Not easy, but they are family, not just fuzzy idiots that puke on my floor and cover my clothes in fur.

Surely there is some kind of recourse you can take here RC??? I mean, can the landlord really do that without giving you 30 days notice or something? at least you could maybe get something temporary set up. You do have rights as a tennant, and I would totally look into that, there should be no reason that old sow should make you give Snow up. Have you exhausted all possibilities? this sucks! and makes me very angry!

Bummer for you and your pup. Don't know what I'd do if I had to give-up any of my pets.

yah i would agree with ultra_gigan. It varies from state to state obviously but I just looked at the Landlord Tenant legislation for my state and there's definitely wording in there that could be used in your defense. 3 Days is absolute bullshit. I mean I understand your position with a family & all which makes things tougher but you do have rights. 1 month minimum and up to 3 months is what you should have been given..depending on how long your lease is for.

sorry to hear this news RC.

sorry to hear this....

i agree with the guys, i'm not exactly sure the landlord can force you out like that. Even if you stopped paying rent altogether, you would still be able to stay there for up to 90 days or something while the LL tries to evict you.

if you had more time, would you have kept your dog?

I would seriously do some research here:

I think the main part is that RC doesn't have his name on the lease.

this is so sad... i'm sorry you have to deal with this tough situation.
being a parent comes first, but i'm sure your pup was a big part of the family too.
i know it has to be hard.... hang in there man!

Is he sub-letting then? even so, there are still ways and means...
