Bands that should be more popular than they are: Loli and the Chones, the Revillos, Hubble Bubble, Plastic Bertrand, Smash Your Face, Conga Fury, Crucial Section, The Real Kids, The Kids, Los Violadores
Bands that probably don't even deserve the piddling popularity they have but I'm going to namedrop anyway because I like them: Anadorei, Crucial Unit, The Real Losers, Slight Slappers, The Haskells, Metal Urbain, The Horribly Wrong, The Sneaky Pinks, Schund.
But really, pretty much all I listen to anymore is Andrew WK and 3 Inches of Blood anyway. The Mummies just played a secret show in SF about a month ago. They played as Scarecrow and the Corn Shuckers. They played unwrapped though. Here's a link to some pics from the show. http://pix.jetlagrnr.com/mummies.html I still listen to my mummies records every once in a while. Thumbs up to Loli, Hubble Bubble, The Real Kids and the Kids also.

I remember when they toured with Echo and the Bunnymen and this strange new band called U2 on a "psychedelic" tour. U2 opened with Echo's "The Cutter." I've never been able to find a recording from that tour. Probably too late now that I can't stand U2. dave zav wrote: Throbbing Gristle Trust me, people listen to them. I learned a long time ago not to listen to “Second Annual Report” just before bedtime, though. I like a noise/progressive Japanese band called ROVO. Sort of a "supergroup," very talented. None of my friends listen to Los Tucanes de Tijuana, but I used to, before they got all glossy and formulaic.

I could name off a ton of obscure industrial and rhythmic noise bands, but there are plenty of people who listen to them.
Hmm... I could do this for every letter of the alphabet, but I won't

Re: Bands that you feel like no one else listens to
There's a Portland band (Big Daddy Meat Straw) that was around when I was in middle school/high school and I often wonder if I'm the only one still listening to them. It's kinda weird to think that they may already be all but forgotten. Think I'll switch over to that after DK "Frankenchrist" is over...

Nice! I would love to see them play, but somehow I doubt they'll be coming to Tokyo anytime soon. I can see it now: "The Mummies: Live at Budokan!" It'll be great... maybe they can even ferry the Mummy Car over with them! No matter how much I thin the record collection I can't seem to part with any Mummies stuff, or anything released by Planet Pimp, Repent or Boom Boom of Renton. The sleeves alone make them amazing!

Seeing those photos of the Mummies "unwrapped" kind of spoils the mystique for me - I hope they haven't sold that old ambulance Planet Pimp was one of those single labels where you could buy stuff sight unseen and know it would good. Anyone like The Pebbles? And didn't Planet Pimp also put out a series of 45's like "Sounds of an Airport," "Sounds of Fast Food Restaurants," etc? Ah, memories . . . .

Re: Bands that you feel like no one else listens to
awesome thread...the only two bands I can think of that sort of went unnoticed are United Mutation and No Trend. Both DC noisy hardcore-ish bands from the end of the early Dischord era. I got to see No Trend and really enjoyed it.

I was gonna suggest Aquarius Records in SF, but took a quick look and nothing there. Maybe try Dark Realm in Downey, CA. Or even hit up blackmetal.com (USA or UK sites) I am very familiar with the band and have found their releases sporadically here and there. Try the used bins... They can be a veritable goldmine as I'm sure we all know

I believe the reason they played unwrapped and under a different name was because they were also playing a show in Spain that was booked as "the only Mummies reunion show". Planet Pimp put out some hilarious shit. Don't forget about Neil Hamburger and that "Winner of the Worst Rap Contest" record.

Re: Bands that you feel like no one else listens to
Wow..so many blasts from the past mentioned here.
Throbbing Gristle. Oh my GOd! I was just looking through all my old RE/Search books not too long ago and ran across my dog-eared 'Industrial Culture Handbook'. And the bank throbbing gristle Morphed into - Chris and Cosey, who I still love, have droppd into obscurity as well..
Does anyone else still listen to Sonic Youth. More and more I get 'Who's that?" when i put on one of their cds. "Goo" is classic.
THe only current band I can think of that really excites me and that nobody I know has heard of is Cansei De Ser Sexy from..uh..i think Argentina?
...oh and Portishead's newest cd is available at Target?!? I still can't wrap my brain around that one..

Of course folks still listen to Throbbing Gristle and Sonic Youth... Both of them continue to inspire 'new' and younger generations.
