Re: I hate Garfield...and someone answered my prayers
Garfield was great when he still looked like a cat. The more anthropomorphized he became the less funny the strips were. Jon is quite sad without Garf there to rub it in.

Quote: Garfield was great when he still looked like a cat. The more anthropomorphized he became the less funny the strips were. This is true and probably coincidental with when Jim Davis actually stopped drawing the strip himself which happened relatively early on. 'Course, the fact that there hasn't been a single new idea injected into the cartoon in the past 10+ years hasn't helped either. The strips only purpose now seems to be selling stickers and notepads at Wal-Mart.

Re: I hate Garfield...and someone answered my prayers
He quit drawing it a looooong time ago. I'm thinking as far back as the early 90s or possibly even the late 80's when he went hot and heavy into the marketing of the Garfield character.

A while back you could find a few Calvin & Hobbes bootleg tees and mini figures on the streets of Hong Kong.
"Mutts" is the only daily I'll take a peek at nowadays.
