Ikea's opening a second store in Japan next month. Expect it to become the japanese number one choice too!
Bit scary with the earthquakes... is it shatterproof?

I'm pretty sure all the glass is safety glass, so unless something else fell onto the Detolf, it'd probably be OK during an earthquake.

I have 4 full detolfs (one is in the Ltd, chase black color - PM me with offers NOW), one unassembled, and a crap load of Billy's, also full.
My main storage is giant cardboard boxes from storage places - which I have about 200 of full, and about 60 file boxes too. Wish they were clear.
That trendier cab is available at Plummers, think it was like 800 or something crazy.
Also have some awesome scando cabs that are so clean and modern, and hold twice as much a detolf, but cost 4 times as much. They do rock tho! Hard.

Backlighting!!
EXPEDIT, the display case of champions!
They're a little more expensive than the Detolf (which I do own one of, by the way) at $129 (though there is a smaller, cheaper version), but of course they can hold a lot more. This allows your toys to breathe. I had way too many toys crammed into my Detolf before. It looked cluttered, whereas now it looks clean.

Two here also, you can't beat the Ikea price. But I recently nabbed a very cool vintage display case for $60, it's nice too.

I am w/ you el-word - free range vinyl!! Instead of spending money on glass cases, I bought a good HEPA filter for the room where the majority of my collection is. Not perfect, but it works pretty well.

we just bought our 4th detolf that I put together, which is why I started the thread.
we couldn't even fit 1 expedit in our apartment. seriously, that's not an exaggeration. not 1.
also, I really want glass so they don't require dusting all the time.
but your set up is very nice el word. I like it a lot and maybe some day will be able to own enough space big enough to actually house something similar.

there's no good way to get a clear shot of all the shelving because of the layout of our apt (we have an kitchen counter peninsula that cuts into every shot), but here is our main toy area: The left 3 are skylar's, the right 3 are mine.
Detolf(S), Detolf(S), Bertby(S), Bertyby(M), Detolf(M), Detolf.(M)
I dont' know what we'd do if we couldn't run to one of 2 Ikeas in our area every time we maxed out a shelf, There'd be toys all over the place.

Laura's displays are always classy!!!
I have two Detolfs but prefer open display shelves or spacious cases where I can have more space to work on a nicer display. Detolf displays usually look like a bunch of stuff crammed together. Risers and such can help, but at the end of the day there's only so much you can do with a Detolf because of the restricted dimensions.

Thanks for the compliments. I rather like the setup myself.
The backlighting is simply a string of rope lights taped to the back along each shelf. It's plugged in to a wall socket with a switch, so I can just turn it on at night.
It's true that it requires more dusting than a Detolf (which isn't immune to dusting itself), but I don't really mind. It doesn't take that long and it gives me an excuse to pick up my toys and play with them.

I used clear vinyl tape and weather stripping, you can barely notice it, no dust.

So did you tape the weather stripping to the door? I'd like to see pictures, too.

Re: I wonder how many detolfs total we have between us?
I did a search for "weather stripping" and found this, so I had to revive this thread. is it possible for somebody who has a sealed/weather stripped detolf to post some images of the actual seal created by the strips? I'm looking into doing this with my detolfs, and any imagery of the result would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance

Re: I wonder how many detolfs total we have between us?
Zero Deltofs, but don't even ask how much I've spent on the Billy Wall of Doom that I have built in my man cave....
Oddly enough the wife was dead set against the Deltofs, but was all over the Billy idea....
