I don't want to be buried. I want to be cremated. I suppose I could be cremated on a pile of burning records. Heh.

I've lived through multiple accidents that should have killed me. I'm pretty sure I am invincible at this point. Also, grumpy old men never die. They just keep living and yelling at kids.

This is such a KR-board thread. What next, arguing the relative merits of Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance?

listen to this man.....

much respect due to die kreuzen & old school touch-n-go....!!!!!!!!!!!

i am unsure of the significance of green day.... :? :?

maybe if they did something original,,but all their material seems like re-hashed styles to me...

Thanks for the props, my man - it's good to know that people on here are aware of history (wow-did I just refer to myself as history? jesus . . )

Baikin - speaking of Rabid Cat, are you familiar with the Offenders? One of the best HC bands ever, in my opinion. Their bassist Mikey was completely astounding.

Oh, and by the way, I regard "American Idiot" as one of the best pop records of the last several years - if you want informed political commentary, you should probably look somewhere else, though.

I didnt really think they stood against anything before. I think its now they have standpoints...

Green Day is full of self righteous shit! I saw them when they opened up for Bad Religion and All, and at the end of their set, they "apologized" to their fans for the high ticket price (which was $15.0) and that punk shows shouldn't be more than $10. A year and a half later, they became popular and headlined a show where tickets were $17.00, not to mention how much are their concert tickets are now?

listen all im saying is anyone so surprised that a pop punk band like green day would do that... very few bands can say they've stuck by what they believed in when they were 18 and sometimes its only because they werent given the chance to "sell out"... if anything green days antics now are just laughable and nothing to get up in arms about...

I find the lip service some bands(ie rancid) give to good charlotte way more nauseating that the politics of the band my 6 year old nephew listens to...

I still have my Offenders 7", they ruled. Did you see the CD that came out with the all the stuff they did a while back, I got it but cant find it in my messy house as usual! What about Really Red from Texas? They were another underappreciated band.

Touch & Go, that label changed everything for me. How can you not listen to Scratch Acid and not think they were way ahead of everthing at the time and to me still are. I know, some of you are saying "wait, the first record was on Rabid Cat!". But that second EP was just as much genius.

And what about Big Black's "Atomizer"? I could never do that record justice in words.

Big Black! Now you're talking. I still can't believe I saw Black Big & Naked Raygun in 2006 ( vs. 1986)

Naked Raugun - GREAT band! Saw em with An extremely drunk Steve Diggle who guested for one song, and then wobbled away. The legendary SOAS (school of Oriental and African Studies) was the venue.

SO, Green Day - joke thread or not? Whatever. Anyone who brings decent poiltics (ie. ones I like) to the kids in AMerica is A OK by me. Seriously, I think they get through to a decent percentage of kids who wouldn't be listening to more inaccessible politicized stuff. That Milton Keynes bowl show on DVD (Bullet in A Bible) is awesome, and shows how far they've come on as a stdium band since I saw em years ago (this is NOT an insult btw). American Idiot is a great, super well constructed, fun album - and I'm happy to say that.

Give me Green Day over say nothing but the booty and the violence bling fest any (fucking) (green) day!

I feel so sorry for the kids who had Time of Your Life as a graduation theme song. Poor suckers!

What I liked most about Green Day "back in the day" (can the 90s really be consider bitd?) was all the anti-Green Day graffiti in the bathrooms at Gilman. Hey, who else knew someone who knew someone who got crabs from those nasty Gilman St sofas?

Only went to Gilman once, back in 93. I didn't sit on the sofas. I did see one of the wildest shows of my life. It was the Insaints. Nudity, sex, bananas, little kids in the front row and cops making arrests. Yay!
