Re: Sick of Star Wars
^^^ That was pretty funny David, as well as Dean's post with the Lucas' trailer.
I haven't seen episodes I, II, or III since they were in the theater. Sort of made me want to watch them after all these years. Sort of, maybe, do I? At one point I wanted to own all 6 films on DVD but then could never find definitive versions that were good.
I enjoyed the new episodes when they came out. But ep. 1 definitely fell of grace ever since. Wouldn't mind if it didn't exist. Ep. III I especially like. So whenever I try to convince someone who's never seen them I suggest the Machete order. Chris, may be you should try to watch them again in that order. Otherwise you might want to not see any of them again if you start with 1.

Harmy's roll-backs are definitely the way to go if you're itching for some excellent space operas. Now, if you must revisit those three films that Lucas made that have nothing to do with the Star Wars trilogy whatsoever, may I suggest...
^ Now replace the theme of Star Wars by Funko for added fun

More pleasing minutiae about an unworthy thing: https://soundcloud.com/i-was-there-too/ ... reg-proops Fifty or so minutes with one of the dudes that did color commentary for that pod racinging scene; the almighty Greg Proops.
Daisy Ridley's character name is Rey, not Kira or Fawn Solo.
Is anyone else here keeping up with the 4chan alleged plot leaks by "Spoiler Man?" Even if they're disinformation or a hoax, they're fascinating and believable.

I noticed the girl next to me in Ecology had R2D2 as her laptop background during lecture. I made the mistake of asking her what she thought of the new trailer which prompted her showing me her Star Wars foot tattoo. Damn millenials! (kidding- before the wolves come out)

Re: Sick of Star Wars
That's beautiful work, thank you very much for sharing the link. However what the author of the article doesn't appear to realize is that Darth Vader's costume was originally inspired, at least in part by historical Samurai armor, much like Jedi robes were inspired by historic Japanese priests. Young Mr. Lucas was very much a fan of Japanese film and the Samurai genre ... this is pretty obvious to anyone familiar with internationally-known Japanese classics like The Samurai Trilogy or The Hidden Fortress (or the fact that he and his Jedi Master Francis Ford Coppola financed Kurosawa's masterpiece "Ran.") It's not that the reimagined concepts are inspired by history ... the original was! As the Sith lord himself said, "the circle is complete."

Re: Sick of Star Wars
Help! Ok, I need some advice for a Christmas gift, and although I like Star Wars, I'm not an expert on the DVD versions. Some people say there is a difference between the DVD sets for Episodes 4-6:
-Prior to 2004: this would be the original movie version seen in theaters VS. -2004 and afterwards: apparently George made some changes to the original version
The person I am giving the gift to, will want the original version. On Amazon, it doesn't look like there is a boxed set for the original version (prior to 2004) for the DVD version (there is for Blu-ray). So does that mean I have to buy the individual DVD disks? Ergh!

Seems kinda strange to make a thread about something you're sick of when it will just lead to further talk of said thing.

There's not actually a good DVD or Blu-Ray version of the unaltered original trilogy, unfortunately. Star Wars fans generally regard Lucas's Special Editions to be complete garbage, and are very vocal about wanting original versions of the movies. There's individual versions of the 3 original movies that have a non-special versions on the discs as a bonus, but they're garbage quality, and not worth the money. Rumors are that Disney is trying to get the rights from Fox to release new unaltered versions on Blu-Ray, but who knows if and when that might actually happen.
If you're video format & torrent-savvy at all, there's what's called the "Despecialized" versions that were put together by a fan called Harmy. They can be found on torrent sites all over the web. He and some other fans took tons of different source materials including the high-quality laser disc versions and created the best 720p editions you're going to find anywhere. They can be downloaded and burned to dual-layer DVD's and will look great.

The thread started six years ago on the theme of overexposure to all things Star Wars and evolved into a mostly-pro, sometimes anti-Star Wars discussion, as long-lived threads will do. There's sort of an unofficial preference at this site regarding multiple threads on a general theme. It's considered better to post to existing threads than to start multiple new ones on a topic. The original thread title no longer dictates a singular attitude of the discussion. Also FWIW this site's owner Brian Flynn is not only a SW fan but has forged a working relationship with Lucas for licensed toys, quite an accomplishment.
