Yuck!!! I think Arya is a pretty lost little girl. All alone. As far as she knows all her family is dead. She comes from power but is on the run thinking always that they are coming to kill her. What better way to regain power and yet remain hidden than by becoming a follower of the many faced god?
I haven't minded this season as it is taking more steps away from the books and that is keeping me curious.

Re: Game of Thrones
^^^ Oh, I understand the purpose for Arya being in training and think it is a fine progression in general for her character, the actual way they are portraying it on screen however, her interactions with the other trainee and Jaqen and her "lessons", just doesn't make any real sense to me, as far as how she is progressing and what the "magic" or purpose of the Faceless Men is. This could be intentional as she is sorta in the dark too. I also realize there isn't much funny about this, it's just that the show has such little humor and they haven't filled the void elsewhere, even Tyrion's plot has mostly been a snooze fest. I probably wouldn't care so much, but Arya went from being the character I was most excited to watch to the most boring thread of the season.

Re: Game of Thrones
As with much in the show they simply need more episodes. Even having left a lot out. However, hopefully her story there will keep with the books. She was our favorite. But her journey...

Re: Game of Thrones
It is a shame Arya had lost some of her character in the 'new' portrayal. Especially in light of the fact that the filmmakers decided to change the whole Sansa storyling in order to give that actress more screen time. Honestly, I am not sure what they saw, but even with her development, I think it is a safe measure that Arya won over a lot of fans in seasons 1 and 2.
Yeah, the battle was pretty good, but kinda of putting the cart before the horse isn't it? Aren't all the books/seasons supposed to be building up to this confrontation between the two forces? I was hoping for some more creepiness/monster/skeletal/supernatural aspect to the Others. They look cool and all, but making them so human - especially in the numbers and degree we saw them this last episode - really brings it down for me. I felt like they were just another race of the northern clans. Other than their army of the dead (sigh, zombies, and superfast and intelligent ones at that), they could really just be any other human army from any of the kindoms, which lowers the struggle. I just didn't get the horrible doom impression I was hoping for. It was kinda there in the first couple appearances we saw them.
Odd how the dragon story kind of just pops in and out whenever they feel it is convenient. Mereen is generally a snoozefest. Did we honestly only hear Danaerys speak? Jorah, give up already and go back to Bear Island!

Re: Game of Thrones
I've never read the books, but don't know if I like the new direction on the show, Though that battle was cool.
Before GOT, though it had a little sorcery mixed in every now an then. Was mostly about swordplay and warriors. It was more real and controlled. I was glad it wasn't like Lord of The Rings, and there wasn't just crazy epic magic going off everywhere making anything plausible. Now it's like here's this zombie army, and look at this magic, this sorcerer just raised 100 people from the dead. I don't really care about zombie movies/shows also. So I'm not really excited about the prospect of GOT becoming about this frozen zombie army threat.

Re: Game of Thrones
The fantasy element is fairly minor in the books (though I can totally see a dragon vs zombie grand finale). Given that fantasy = special effects = lots of money, I'm pretty confident it will be kept minor in the show as well.
You are right of course Oli, and given that any tv show, even one for HBO, is going to be budget-constrained, I don't expect them to shell out a tonne on effects and jazz. BUT, that being said, how many extras were in that zombie army shot say? Even with CGI. Now, I am just saying I could just as easily do with a handful of very well constructed 'monsters' or deeper development in an episode, than throwing massive production costs at staging an epic battle. Though I guess the general consensus was that that was one of the season highlights, so I am probably in the minority and HBO knows what the ["American"] audience wants and what they are doing. Okay, I will shut up now.
No...that's not all I got. Eat a three inch dick footlong you prick.

I hear ya.
I'm too amped up to sleep for a bit after that.
I like it all, but these last few episodes have been exceptionally enjoyable.
These white walkers are going to be damn hard to defeat. Especially with what was revealed about their clan last week. I assume they'll be making their way to the wall pretty soon. Can't wait!

Re: Game of Thrones
With how "epic" the endings of the last few episodes have been I'm very curious to see what's going to finish out the season next week. I would have liked it if something good would have happened to Shireen before that fate, vacation to Dorn and a fun spa day or something, her whole life was pretty much a bummer.

she got a toy stag, I mean... that's something.
do you know what happens to most people with silverscale ?
It also has fur in spots on it's back. If you can get one in the box, do; the box art is pretty fantastic.
Here's the front :

Re: Game of Thrones
I think I know what movie I'll be watching tonight.
Willow's one of those films that never gets old.

That Eborsisk is such a great toy. I have hunted one off and on for years, but never had the timing to come across one. As silly/childish as it might be, Willow still remains wholly underrated. So many people still haven't seen it, which I find odd, for any collaboration that brought together Spielberg and Lucas, and this included children of the 80s.
Of all the characters they have cut from the novels or killed off, do we really need to see any more of Meryn Trant or Mace Tyrell?

Actually enjoy how much of a boob they've made Mace Tyrell. I'd kick it with him for sure, especially if his daughter is around.

Re: Game of Thrones
You learn that no one is safe in the first season, but if they keep going like this, there won't be any likable characters left.
Looks like I'll be rooting for the white walker clan against the knight's watch. Though I suppose we're meant to pull for the wildlings now... if the k.w. doesn't kill them first.

Re: Game of Thrones
I would guess Stannis is NOT dead, only because Brienne failed at everything else & I can't see this as the one thing she managed to get right. He might as well be dead though, after genuinely losing everything.
