JoeMan wrote: How times have changed...or haven't. Years ago, people were gaga over everything and wanted everything. A little competition or increase in collectors sure caused some anxiety. Today it's the same deal, newer members come in and want all the new hot toys, but they want the new hot toys of their time, not SB from 6 years ago, or Marmit from 10 years ago.
Here's my advice, and I'm not just going to tell people to pay no more than retail, or flippers to not flip and watch out for collectors. Because that will never change. There are decades of and decades of toys floating around unwanted and cheap and not hyped and some of them are really cool, much cooler in fact than that brand new hyped toy that just sold for $1500. Do some research, dive in, explore the back catalog of sofubi. You'd be amazed what gems you can snatch up on YJA for 1000 yen. Don't think of the show your collection as a trophy room where you have to have whatever is going for triple retail on ebay. Don't feel like you're in a pissing competition with anyone. Just have fun and explore and find new toys to be interested in. Then you won't be bothered if you don't win every lottery because there is plenty else to be interested in and collect. Joe you really do make a great point in this. You can't get mad at what others have, Most of us can't afford these insane collections to begin with. If you buy what you like and not for the hype you eventually will enjoy your collection more. I tend to see something for sale and say to my gf "shit if only i had the money for this" but then I realize that most of what I want will eventually show up again on here at some point in time. We all have our limits. My bar has risen a lot since I joined and it probably will keep rising, but seriously If you've got the money to drop 1500 bucks on a figure more power to ya. Ill wait until that figure is sold 2 years later at a quarter of the price...

I'll take Alice's blatant homophobia over the innuendos that often get thrown around here.

I remember learning what Tom of Finland was before I had the internet and before I was 12......living in the big city corrupts you.

that Tom business was completely not what I expected...love when that happens though, that Google stops auto-completing for you because of the content and it sounds so innocent!

Re: oust the flipper
I know it's somewhat off base, but for some reason the Tom's of Finland, always reminded me of this portrait of Superman, by Arthur Tress. NSFW, 18+ http://www.marcusbunyan.com/ptf/histmain_n.htmlI got the chance to meet Mr. Tress, and as open as he could be in his photography, he was very introverted in real life.
