Lil Wayne, I think it started when he used the line, "Ni**ers wanna eat cuz they aint ate nuthin', but ni**ers want to leave when you say you out of mustard."

Ah, the Channel - such a great club. I saw so many good shows there - Black Flag, Cramps, Gun Club, Nina Hagen, Bo Diddley . . . . I'm looking at a vintage flyer circa 1985 for a Jeffrey Lee Pierce Quartet (Gun Club) show at the Channel that i attended. The flyer also notes: "Coming Soon! The Replacements $5.50/6.50 day of the show" Those were the days.

haha...yeah those were the days. i've seen so many shows there. not sure if you've heard the stories about it since its closing but it got very colorful towards the end. it was a stripjoint towards the end...

best show i saw there was probably a toss up between faith no more/soundgarden/voivod and suicidal tendencies/exodus/pantera.
i stood outside for a slayer show once because it was 21+, and i won't even go into the skinheads beating up sacred reich in the parking lot...unless of course people want me to ;)

no - i never did find out what happened to it except that one day i knew it closed which seemed inevitable given that the area was starting to get developed (I always liked that fact that it was in this totally abandoned area of town - at least at the time - it was almost kind of scary walking there across the bridge from south station).

so what happened at the end, besides it becoming a strip club?

I have such fond memories of B-town at that time - spending all my money at Newbury Comics (on LP's, then CD's), waiting for each issue of Boston Rock to come out. Remember that dude Phil-in-flash?

Nothing like a walk down memory lane . . . .

Oh yeah, I then discovered Day Old Antiques in Boston (as well as Man from Atlantis, I think it was called, while visiting Newbury Comics in the Garage in Cambridge and the rest is history, so-to-speak, a very, very expensive history (i.e. kaiju fever).

haha...oh Man from Atlantis...where are you now?

Yeah the manager from the Channel disappeared. They found him in the channel if you know what i mean.

It's still really weird over in that area, although the area is totally developed now for the most part. all of the artists housing over there has been turned into luxury condos and the like.

A walk down memory lane indeed. Now I need to listen to some Agnostic front haha...oh what will my coworkers say...

A couple of my friends said the best show they ever saw in their life was at the Channel - SS Decontrol, Mission of Burma and X - I had a chance to go but blew it off and have never lived it down. Looking back, I feel like i missed too many good shows - but i did get to see the Flesheaters and Scruffy the Cat at the Rat.

as odd as it may sound, I saw 311 at the rat. completely nuts.
the best show i saw at the rat was a cherrydisc records christmas party.
6L6 and Big Catholic Guilt were favorites of mine at the time...

I missed a Youth of Today show there though...still wished i had gone...

That's not a guilty pleasure. I just count that as another thing to collect. I can probably go a whole month without wearing the same shoe (very small by shoe collecting standards) and maybe 2 months with the amount of baseball caps and hats that I have. I've cut back to feed the toy collecting vice :)

I have a few skeletons in my closet but the only one I will publicly admit to right now is

the new lifetime album. to some this doesnt meant anything. but to some, this is probably offensive. My advice to those who loved lifetime: give this album a shot. Consider it the "set your goals" of lifetime.

I listened to an old ELO album a few nights ago and totally enjoyed the heck out of it.

Where do I turn in my OG punk rock credentials? I am so ashamed, but it was ear candy while it lasted.

Wow...it's like looking in a mirror. I have a baseball cap problem, as well. I wear every damn one, though (goes for the sneakers, too).

I've had to stop buying up ballcaps. It was just getting way out of hand. Some of them were pretty cool. Moscow Dynamo ice hockey team, a Minnesota North Stars cap with Mike Modano's signature...I mainly bought them when I was working retail. Most of them are snowboard, skateboard, or hockey based. As far as the sneakers go, I've cut way back on that as well and most of them are boxed up. I just buy 1-3 pairs a year and I've become very picky. My favorite shoes are my Nike Court Force Gimme 5s. So comfy. The one I regret not getting are the Uenos. Now I'm having to check evil-bay for a pair :( But my new thing...hats. For the new year, I started out with 6-7 hats ranging from fedoras to...well...ballcaps.
