Post Re: RIP Kung Fu Star David Carradine
I was at a sports collector's show getting a ball signed by Joe DiMaggio. He wore dark sunglasses the whole time and so there was never any eye contact with any of the fans. I didn't see him smile once. There was no friendly chit chat with fans like when I got Mickey Mantle's autograph (Mickey seemed like a great guy). I had very carefully chosen for him to sign, a clean, pure white ball with no scuffs on it. There was a mix up at the table and they handed my ball to another guy and when I pointed it out, they just handed me another random ball. When I tried to explain that I'd taken a lot of time to choose the ball they'd just handed to someone else, Joe DiMaggio shouted at me "You got what you wanted, now get the hell out!" I was stunned and when I looked at the people in line behind me, there mouths were hanging open in disbelief. I don't know what The Yankee Clipper was like normally, but that day, he was an ass. I do like telling the story of how I got cussed out by DiMaggio, though. :)

a few years ago, I was in Tosca in North Beach. at the table next to our was no other than Francis Ford Coppola, his wife and daughter Sofia. everyone was really cool about it. He wrote the God Father here and is a regular fixture. Of course, I was star struck and have a terrible habit of staring. I mean non-stop staring. after several minutes of squirming, Francis got up and left. His wife then turned to me and said loudly: "he left because some people can't stop staring..." I was mortified and felt horrible. all I could muster was: "oh, i'm sorry. It's just i'm a huge fan..."

Funny how this turned into a bad experience with famous people thread.

Here is a funny story ..

When I worked at the gym, the WWF / E wrestlers would all come in whenever they where in town. I have meet just about all the older and some of the semi new stars. One funny moment was when Mark Henry was there. He came up to me, very serious and asked me " Do you have tanning and can I get a bed ? " I kinda just looked at him for a sec, and mumbled ... sureeeeee, He started laughing and said, nah I'm just fucking with ya and patted my shoulder. The guy was cool and we talked for a little after that. Met Cain that same day, this was before he showed his face. He was cool and hung around the longest just talking with everyone, down to earth county fella, you would never guess his wrestling persona from meeting him then.

I saw Crank: High Voltage this weekend at the dollar theater. Carradine plays a character named Poon Dong. I can't decide who had the more embarrassing last movie, him or Raoul Julia in Street Fighter.
