 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
My favorite part about Gangland is seeing all the different logos, and marks the gang use (I'm in advertising), Some of them are just so cool, It's like whoever is coming up with logos, should have skipped drug selling and looked for a career developing Brand Identities.

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
Really liked 'Deadwood' - Seasons 1,2,3 Disappointingly the series was canned after series 3 leaving it to not wrap up that well. May not be everyones cup of tea though! Dialog can get a little bit confusing in series 2, what with the old world settler speak. Also....'Generation Kill' and 'Band of Brothers'. Both worth watching on Blu-Ray if you can. Watching the last series of the Wire at the moment.

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
Watching Conchords season 1 again. So much I missed the first time.Best comedy ever.Glad I married a kiwi. She explains everything to me. Loved Deadwood. Watching Generation Kill too.But its not The Wire. Its like it was written by a couple of stoners.Doesnt really go anywhere. The cast is good though.Just the script thats lite. The Rolling Stone reporter was also in OZ another killer prison crime drama boxset you need: I also saw the Dog Whisperer on an 8o's deck ripping down the street carving it up in one of the episodes. Who knew he could skate. He does indeed rock!!

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
what a picture of Cesar!!! after watching the series I want to try and be a dog whisperer to my sister-in-law's 2 little dogs...they are noisy and way too spoilt.
Flight of the Conchords live stuff on YouTube is so much better than the series IMO, its what put them on the map.

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
Then, of course, how could I forget MXC on Spike here in the US. It's a Japanese original with the name Takehashi's Castle, I think. Specifically loved the US dubbed version with the cheesier humor than the original, I bet. Always was impressed by the ordinary Japanese going full-on into those challenges, nearly breaking their necks and keeping their spirit intact. Funny as hell, imho.

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
Truth time: MXC makes me laugh. I mean, the actual challenges are fun to watch, but the really bad cornball, pun filled and low brow humor gets me.
Anyone watch Batman the Brave and the Bold? I'm curious since they bring in a lot of weird DC heroes/villains. I know it's targeted for younder kids, but it still seems fun. Wish the Dini/Lukic crew would make another series. I don't think most of the STV DVD's are really that good, though some are pretty fun.

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
Brave and Bold is a lot of fun; it has a lot of material aimed toward the older crowd as well as kids. Batman is basically the Silver Age version, and episodes have featured the Justice League, Kamandi, Bat-Mite, and Deadman.

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
Looks like all my faves got mentioned:
Venture Bros Curb Your Enthusiasm 30 Rock Big Bang Theory Flight of the COnchords Season 1 only (Season 2 just did not work for me. I found myself turning it off in the middle of some of the episodes. NOT a good sign. Let's hope Season 3 doesn't get even worse) Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Mad Men

I was actually bored and disappointed through most of the season--although Sugar Lumps and Too Many Dicks On the Dancefloor made the season well worth watching!

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
It all seemed so contrived and 'sit-com'-ish this year with way too much focus going to the supporting characters. For me they managed to strip all the magic from the show. There were some good moments, and a couple good songs, but you summed up my reaction to S2 nicely with those two words: Bored and disappointed.

My girlfriend and i fell in love with the first series. It's like nothing else you've seen. Every son is a gem. Funny you guys should say this. I've got Series 2 sitting near my tv to watch. Only watched a few episodes so far but they all fall flat. UnderBeit wrote: It all seemed so contrived and 'sit-com'-ish this year with way too much focus going to the supporting characters. Thing i like about the first series is it's so laid back. It feels like your hanging out with them in NY while they look for gigs. As UnderBeit said, Series 2 feels very 'sit-com'-ish with too much focus going to the supporting characters. I like the simple chemistry of Bret, Jermaine & Murray. (w/ Dave and Mel appearing in some episodes).

 Re: Must See/Rent/Own TV
Just blew through two seasons of CALIFORNICATION. Wow. This one went WAAAAAAAY under my radar--I don't think I give Showtime enough credit--and has quickly become my new favorite show.
Sure, there are those who probably see this as a slightly mysoginist show--what with all of the nameless sex--but I surmise Duchovny's "Hank Moody" is the West Coast version of Denis Leary's Tommy Gavin (RESCUE ME). You watch the show, and know that, superficially, everything about this guy is wrong. After spending time with the character, though, you see that he is actually a really well-intentioned fellow (e.g., doing everything he does for the sake of his family), but does everything the wrong way.
Other great things about the show: 1) too many laugh-out-loud moments to count; 2) Evan Handler (the "bald guy") is the next best on-screen agent behind Piven's Ari Gold; 3) if you don't fall in love with Handler's character's wife (Pam Adlon), you're not human.
