Re: How many people collect vinyl records on this board?
The other week I was flipping through records at the store and noticed that Motorhead packaged a CD with the record (I think it was Ace of Spades). I think that's kinda a cool idea so that you can have the record to play at home, but also have digital format to take with you on-the-go. I'd like to see the more deluxe versions offer something like this, whether it's an actual CD or a code for a free download of the album. Digitizing all my vinyl was such a hassle...I'd be far more likely to buy only vinyl (and pay a premium) if it came with a free digital version too.

[quote="jebcrow"]i have that all in the family record too is it a pink cover with their portrait?? That's the one. I took out the record and went to AC Moore to buy a record frame for the cover and hung that bad boy up in the bedroom.

Hey, if anyone could direct me as to where I could buy a Satanic Threat 7" Red Vinyl I'd be pretty grateful. Hells Headbangers sold out of them.

I wanna start a record collection but I think I'll restrict myself till I can afford a jukebox or snazzy art deco record player from the 60's, it's also awsome that record collecting has become alot like toy collecting with all the riddiculous vinyl color combos

Records are cool, I have a few really cool HTF ones, but yes they have kinda become trendy with the colored vinyl, ect... If i'm dropping major cash on plastic I'll stick to the Pus...

missy wrote: Not sure if I count as a "collector" definite buyer. I'm now in the camp that won't buy stuff on CD if its available on Vinyl instead. I've bought records my whole life growing up with punk rock. Most stuff was only available on 7" or LP in most cases. I stopped for over 10 years, but just started buying again recently. I have filled up several expedit cubes, but nothing major yet. Yeah, I wouldn't say "collector" vs. "buyer" either. What I do (since I don't have a record player in my car where I want to listen to music) I generally buy the vinyl then download an MP3 so I can have it for on-the-go. Or I'll transfer it to MP3 if I can't find a download. I need a tape player bad, the junker I drive to work has a tape deck but my old tape recorder died so I can't make new tapes.

My collecting habits, in order of importance (and money spent): Books, Records, Toys, Comics. I collect mostly metal and hardcore stuff, but my collection has country to rap to 80's pop and everything in between. I'm always looking for Pushead stuff that I don't have (Fan Club, Bacteria Sour, Pusmort, etc) so let me know if you have anything that you are willing to part with.

Re: How many people collect vinyl records on this board?
Thanks, Chad, for inspiring me to hook my table up! It's far from convenient in terms of where it's placed and trying to operate it, but it's been worth it! Listened to my favorite 7" for the first time in YEARS the other day! I never got around to digitizing my 7s/10s. And I had forgotten how good vinyl sounds - MP3s sound like shit after listening to a record! I need to save up a whole lotta money so I can get around to building a wall unit in my living room so I can have better access to my turntable...and then upgrade my stereo components!

EtR_Wolf I have a decent collection, but not nearly as big as some of yours.. It is growing though, slowly but surely. I have a wide variety of genres that I collect, which some of it consists of Classic Rock, Rock, Metal, Grunge, Punk, Indie, Ska, Reggae, Industrial, D&B, Jungle, older Techno etc... There are a few record stores in the city that I love going to and spending hours sifting through all of that vinyl Sadly I don't have as much money at the moment to spend on a ton of records like I used to, but I still try to get some now and then. The sound quality is amazing on vinyl! I'm glad it's making a comeback.

Re: How many people collect vinyl records on this board?
Can somebody recommend me a good set up for a record player, deck and speakers basically I just want the set up to listen the few vinyls I have, but don't have where to play them
which brands lo look, I don't want to spend a lot, but I want a good price/quality combo, I live in a small apartment so no need for a super high end thousand of watts capable gear

Re: How many people collect vinyl records on this board?
I got this for xmas: http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATLP120- ... B002S1CJ2QI just run it through my iMac. Best thing ever for 'ex-dj's' that still want to hear their records but don't really need to mix. USB turntable so you can digitize them. Very nice quality. I have a lot of promo/ rare/ obscure vinyl so for years after selling my turntables I could not listen to my records which was pretty frustrating. Now everyday I grab a few and make digital copies so it's like hearing tons of new tracks!

anyone have more suggestions? Just get a Sony PS-LX250H. I got mine at Best Buy a couple years ago for about $120 but I'm sure Amazon has it too... I just run it through my Sony amplifier also from Best Buy for about $200 i think... Cheap stuff but the sound quality is fine for just basic apt. listening... The needles break easy if pressed by accident and they are $30 to replace so be careful or invest in a better needle.

EtR_Wolf 28. 3x3is9 I consume a lot of music, but only specific things interest me to buy on vinyl. I used to have a huge collection of club music.. mostly old baltimore, chicago and detroit stuff... I admit cashing in and selling a lot of that stuff when the whole club music thing blew up a few years ago. Lately, I've been buying old early American Folk, Noise, Doom, and Drone records. I did pre-order the Iceage LP now that it's being released in NA, but that doesn't really fit any of the above styles. danlord wrote: Can somebody recommend me a good set up for a record player, deck and speakers basically I just want the set up to listen the few vinyls I have, but don't have where to play them

You could probably pick up a really nice old record player for less than an entry level one new. The local record shop here often has good ones for sale. I think a good test is if it feels to heavy for it's size... probably a quality build then.. I'm no expert though.

I agree about trying to pick up a decent used one. Try record stores and possibly Craigslist. Technics is a really good brand, from what I've been told about mine.
