Post Re: Your first concert
I was a pretty sheltered kid, and very picky about music, all-around lame, and believe it or not my first real concert was earlier this year

Rammstein at the Q in Cleveland

absolutely amazing performance through and through. listening to them and watching pro DVDs of their concerts for years I still wasn't ready for how good they looked and sounded.

several years ago I got hooked on them hearing "Mein herz brennt" at a friend's house, played it for my dad and he immediately bought the album (Mutter) and from there he and I bought the rest. zoom forward to whenever they announced it and I almost couldn't believe they'd be coming to Cleveland, there was no fucking way I wouldn't go and be sure to make sure my dad was going with me. they opened with my dad's favorite song "Sonne" and never stopped kicking ass. a lot of the crowd seemed lame, more interested in holding up their phones and shit than actually having fun, but thankfully the people around our seats were more rowdy. I got pretty screamed-out by the end of it. caught a piece of the shiny confetti they sprayed shitloads of during the song "Amerika"; between red white (silver) and blue I got red. been keeping it in my wallet.

Besides plenty of small/medium club hardcore punk shows, the first proper concert I ever saw was Yngwie Malmsteen and AC/DC at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. My coworkers thought it would be funny to take the punk to a metal show. I had a great time!

First concert of any kind-Weird Al on the Off the Deep End tour in 1992. Twelve year old me loved it, and I think I still would love it if I saw him now, 20 years later. I went to Ozzfest once or twice in the years following, but didn't start going to shows extensively until 2000, when I suddenly had friends that liked some of the same stuff I was into.

ha! funny, Live aus Berlin and Sehnsucht were the first two albums I ever owned. The extra dvd on the LaB had that dildo scene (from heirate mich) deleted from the US release. Lucky mexicans, man.

Post Re: Your first concert
My first time at an outdoor amphitheater (is that redundant?) was for a laser-light spectacular featuring the music of John Williams. Mommie, Daddy and little six-year old me on a blanket listening to the Boston Pops.

In '84 I started going to this skanky all-ages punk club called Blondies. I'm pretty sure the first time was for Angry Red Planet and the Undead. We went, of course, on accounta the Misfits skull on the flyer.

Violator Tour! My cousin took me to see them with Nitzer Ebb + the Jesus & Mary Chain @ Giant Stadium that year.

Dad was a USFL season ticket holder way back when and there was a Beach Boys concert after one of the games, I guess that would qualify as my first event. Other than that my parents took me to see The Rolling Stones on the Steel Wheels Tour with Living Color opening, also @ Giant Stadium.

My first show on my own was Gangstarr at the Birch Hill in NJ @ 1992. Years later I was at the release party for Full Clip, I got to talk to Guru and Premiere who totally remembered that night, particularly doing Dwyck 2x back to back (Greg Nice of Nice & Smooth was at the show).

I didn't really go to any live music shows until 1995, Orange 9mm (with Neds Atomic Dustbin of all bands!) @ The Stone Pony in Asbury Park.

Haha not sure, Babes In Toyland was the opener. Kind of a confused show. But super awesome.

A) gangstarr was the shit
B) birch hill was also awesome. One of my earliest concerts was there. The movielife right before 40 hour train came out. They were awesome as usual and still are one of my favorite love bands. Even I am the avalanche is good live cause of vinnie. I think senses fail opened that night and did maybe 2-3 songs. They sucked, but it was cool cause they were my age and opening a show.

My first concert was September 18th 1984

Billy Squier at the New Haven Coliseum with Ratt opening.

I'd rather remember :

1985 Robert Plant with The Honeydrippers opening in New Haven (I had 8th row center).

1986 Jimmy Cliff with Max Creek at the West Hartford Ball Room (The Agora)

My most memorable concert was during my first year of college at the Univ. of Maryland. On May 25. 1969, I picked up my brother Skip at the campus radio station. On the way to the Merriweather Post Pavilion, my VW bug broke down and we had to hitchhike. But we finally got there just as Led Zeppelin was starting their gig, opening up for the lead act The Who!!

Little did we know that we were watching musical history as both bands went on to become icons of rock as well as this being the only time they played together.

And these sites say that "Whole Lotta Love" was only the second time it was performed live in concert.

i was at that one! i still love 'em.

my first concert was years before that, though. i think it was in '83, maybe, and was here in phoenix. i just wanted to go so that my sister couldn't (my father's friend only had 1 extra ticket).

it was to see huey lewis and the news.

the first concert that i wanted to go to because i actually liked the band was a couple of years later: RUSH!

Nice first show.

And I thought skullbrain already had a pretty good connection to the US punk scene. It just went back a few more years with the Limp Records mention.

I'm trying to remember back but the earliest I remember was Poison Idea, False Liberty and the Melvins opening. I think one more band but that was along time ago. I do remember my girlfriend getting her toe broken when some skinhead stomped on it in the pit, she was a 100 times more hardcore than me. It was nuts, there were a lot of skinheads back then.
