Re: Tattoo Thread! [Post um, if you got um!]
I think the only way I'll end up having to worry about it is if I do a full back piece. Everytime I see the earhart pieces in full coverage I start to think about it.
I've been debating if I can keep up with old school stuff now because I have this urge now to just do large cohesive new school stuff, and not sure how to mesh the two (ie one sleeve old one new).

Sounds cool. I'm thinking the ol' "Dogs Playing Poker" scene on my butt. That way if I moon someone it's both a mooning and performance art.

Its worth a rental, no real revelations if you already know the story, but the interviews are good and interesting.

Dude, If had a body suit like Lyle Tuttle I would be the WINNER of this thread! That old school shit is off the hook, off the chain, and disconnected it is so effing sick. Could be the b&w photo's... If you are new to tattooing I would highly recommend watching this movie. These guys are Jedi Knights.

Re: Tattoo Thread! [Post um, if you got um!]
I have quite a few sailor jerry books, some of the editing of the film left a bit to be desired and a few other things annoyed me, but as I said, its worth watching, and I agree if you don't know much about old school/sailor jerry/ed hardy/etc etc its good. There's an ed hardy documentary coming out soon also (I forget what it is called). I used to be all about old school stuff but now I'm hooked on the new school stuff and scrapped plans my old school sleeve. I guess its time I actually post a picture, elbow start of sleeve. rockert wrote: Quote: Its worth a rental, no real revelations if you already know the story, but the interviews are good and interesting. Quote: There's an ed hardy documentary coming out soon also (I forget what it is called). Why not? We already get the Ed Hardy wine and Ed Hardy incense. My girl and I were jabbering about that 'sell out' thing and she made the point that if anyone was gonna do it it might as well be the King of tattoos. I mean can you imagine if there was a show with a girl who can barely tattoo and everyone held that up as the standard of the industry? oh wait.... What do people say about yer guys toy tattoos? just basic "WTF's"? I love it. Hidden in plain site... Audio was that in one sitting? That is a lot of 'ditch' work. I had my ditch split open and it was layered on over 3 sessions.

Re: Tattoo Thread! [Post um, if you got um!]
I've seen a few tattoo blogs kind of do posts "in defense" of ed hardy. The whole thing is so far out of hand now, but when it comes down to it, he's still amazing, and american tattooing wouldn't be what it is today without him.

Totally missed this earlier. One sitting of about 14 hours, probably 12+ hours of work, I'd say there was a good 6+ hours in the ditch, most of the shop though the artist and I were crazy for the placement.

The old man sold his name to that man like ten years ago. I wonder if knew it would take such a turn.
I am every interested in seeing the movie as I've read the American tattoo master book several times. Does it touch on his racist banter at all?

Re: Tattoo Thread! [Post um, if you got um!]
The sailor jerry doc? It doesn't really go too much into negatives from what I recall and I know not to the extent that I've read in some books. At one point the movie just kind of "shows" his list of reasons to get a tattoo and doesn't give you time to read them, so you miss the fun homophobic references. lol bannedindc wrote: The old man sold his name to that man like ten years ago.
