Mother of god Englan were average although fair play to the US their strikers made life difficult and Donavon and Dempsey are class.

For a country the size of Florida I'd say we held our own! :D . . . came back positive and strong in the second half and had more possession and opportunity despite the mother of all fuck-up's just before half-time!

As usual we just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net!

I like Dempsey but it seemed more like a fluke that it went it. A draw isn't bad though especially for first game nerves.

That was a pile of shit. England held off by the States' safe playing.
I didn't think England did well at all, especially in the second half. I really like Crouch and pretty much assume when he hits the pitch he'll score. But no.
And Rooney couldn't get anything past.
The States didn't deserve to win, but definitely held their (boring) own.
Lets hope both teams perk up from here.

I now break out of my full support for the States and sit happily on the fence supporting both England and the States.
I just wanted the Us to beat England, but I have always wanted England to win the World Cup, not that I honestly believe they will, it'd just be nice to have a week off work while the country shuts down to celebrate :)

Totally agree with backtrack. US' gameplay is so boring. If they want to give the next step they have to change that, they play most games like that, holding back and trying to kill with flash attacks...

MAking mistakes is only human, and in this case that was the only good thing US had in their favour in this game... Meaning: nothing.

I actually thought the American team could be the underdog for this cup (I know it's not over). They need something fresh, hopefully it was only because it was frst game and against Eng.

Regarding England, I think they tried hard but playing against an all defensive team doesn't help. They were lacking fortune and genius. I think it is a promising team with great players, they should (and will) get better with each game.

Both teams will have no trouble getting pass to the next stage and I'm hoping to see Eng in the final with Spain, although not even sure that can happen. Good luck to both teams in the next games.

Not that I believe they'll get anywhere, but it was good to see the sportsmanship the Koreans were showing while the Greeks were squabbling among themselves...

I was really shocked that England started without Crouch on the pitch. I figured they'd go with him and Rooney up front to decimate the US defence.

I'm happy as hell that it ended in a draw, but I'm guessing that Green's confidence is going to be shaken a tad for the rest of the Cup.

crouch is a bench player... Heskey and Rooney play well together. Really though it masks the fact we only have one world class striker surrounded by averageness. Defence is poor, no pace and taking an injured player in King was a risk and now he's out for the next game leaving Dawson who didn't even make the squad and Carragher who is slower than my gran.

. . . and can be a liability when the red-mist drops!

That said, they should have walked away with 3 points yesterday and hopefully the next couple of games will see them settle down, find their stride and start working together as a team more.

Yeah, what the fuck IS that about?
unless they figured a draw was the best they could have hoped for, which is pretty sad.

The crazy conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the outcome of the game was some how related to the Gulf of Mexico situation and Obama & Cameron's meeting.
Stranger things have happened on the pitch.

Admittedly this is far far beyond unlikely, and I am just being a bit crazy minded, stirring insanity among the ranks.

england was pretty heavily favored. it is a bit of a failure for them to only draw

and as the US was supposed to lose, to come out of the game with a point and a goal is a win for them

Heavily favoured to fuck it up . . . we always manage to and this game was no different. :D

That said, England's first game of the 1966 cup was a draw!

Has the English goal keeper committed suicide yet?

he reminds me an awful lot of Bill Buckner.

Worst start to a world cup in while? quality of the games so far apart from Germanys demolition of Australia has been piss poor.

And most distasteful tshirt seen so far?
