 Spiderman 3
I hate to say it, but I was a little disappointed.
I really liked the first two, but there was just something off on this one in my opinion.

Really, everything I've heard from people is good. Damn, well I'm going Sunday to the IMAX, so at least the effects will be cool if I end up feeling less than satisfied.

Living Dead, it seems that the reviewers I respect agree with you. Something missing along with the wrong kinds of overkill. I was disappointed to learn that Kristen Dunst sings two songs in the movie. Huh? She's very pretty and likeable but songs?
I'm taking my office to see it this Friday. I'm setting very, very low expectations. That way, I'll probably like it and think "that was fun turn-your-brain-off entertainment." I hope.
Soon we'll be gabbing about Transfomers.

Read Anthony Lane's (one of two film critics I almost always agree with) review yesterday, and he fucking slammed it (in his funny, inimitable style):
http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/cinema/2007/05/07/070507crci_cinema_lane
Lane is always a fan of fantasy/sci-fi/hero/horror flicks, when they're done well- so this really gives me pause. Too bad, as I was looking forward to this one.
I'll wait for friends' reviews to see if I'll actually try to catch this one in the theater....

I like Lane's reviews a lot too ... thanks for the link!
For awhile I lost faith in him because he kept referring to The Shining as "a bad movie" but ... whatever. He's one of the smart ones, and as you say, funny.
A.O. Wilson in the NYT is usually on the mark too although he's less entertaining.

just got back from a midnight show. I like the quirkiness Raimi brings to the table. 10 lbs of story told in a 2 lbs bag. Something always gets jumbled.

what previews have you seen that would lead to a let down for transformers?
it looks fantastic to me...the effects look incredible

i am also not excited about the movie... they lost me when they put flames on optimus.
what's worse is Shia LaBeouf, my friend met him at a party in LA and told me he is a total dickhead, acts like a spoiled brat. he reminds me of topher grace aka venom, another dickhead, i met him in a bar at the gaslight district, he was there for the SDCC06 spiderman 3 panel.
not sure if this is real. but if is it... why is megatron an alien jet? i guess it doesnt make sense when a giant robot transforms to a tiny gun.

hmmm...well i guess i'm not factoring in whether i care for the actors or not. i don't really look at that aspect of it, most hollywood types are pretentious at some point i would think.
being in a transformers geek family (boyfriend, me, his brother in law...) we're all excited because it's a live action movie of something we love. it might suck in the long run, but i'm still going to go see it because the previews I have seen are intense.
some aspects are obviously going to need to be changed. if megatron was a gun in a live action movie how would that work?
ah well...to each their own i guess...it looks killer to me

well.. from the previews, it just looks like a stylized big budget special fx packed movie from a filmmaker that just likes to spend boatloads of money. i would have liked megatron to transform into a little gun, because i want to see a movie that's true to the cartoon... i want it to be sorta cheesy and campy. now, all they have is a movie where aliens land on earth which just happen to transform... i'm pretty sure this movie has been made dozens of times already. i remember at SDCC they revealed "huge news" about the movie, and all they revealed was that the original voice of optimus prime was going to be used.. i was like "he isn't in it already?"... LAME

OK, jebcrow wins. Please burn Hollywood at your earliest convenience.
I just saw Spidey3 with my office and a bunch of other people from the tech industry who bought tickets to be the "first kid on the block."
It was extremely entertaining, because the audience was howling with laughter at the ham acting, weird affectations, and soap opera motivations. There are some funny scenes and there are definitely some great monster moments, at least I thought so, but ... hehehehe ... um, let's put it this way. This was the rare movie where audience heckling made it better. A woman behind me kept complaining about all the "guyliner" LOL. At least I learned a new word.
Don't let me spoil it for anyone. Just turn your brain off when you go and enjoy the ride. It's kinda like the recent Star Wars movies. Visually impressive, but spare us romantic scenes that make us embarassed for the actors.

fuck michael bay, that movie will end up being lame.
Mark, I saw spidey yesterday, bunked off work yesterday ! I was a wee bit dissapointed too, loved the first two, they are like the perfect superhero movies, this one , well there is just too much going on and it's too long.
The script is pretty weak with a lot of things held together by coincidence, and one minute evil emo spidey is roughing peeps up then jiving like its saturday night fever!!WTF..the action is amazing tho, although Venom was really wasted ....
good end nicely tied up. but for me that really should be the last one.
Unless they finally bust out the Lizard !
