i dont know if there would be much interest in the threads here, but i want to write little reviews of what i think about new kaiju figures i get. i have enjoyed doing this with toys i own on another message board... taking photographs of them and stuff like that... and maybe my opinion on something could help someone decide on something if they had been on the fence previously

with the large kinnikuman romandoh figures for instance, i have written little reviews talking about with a score of 1 to 5

Sculpt (general appearance, balance, texture, that sort of thing)
Paint (color and quality of the application and stuff like that)
Articulation (this one wouldnt really apply here i guess)
Accessories (again not sure if it would apply)
Coolness (how it looks on the shelf? stand out piece? etc.)
Value (do i feel like i got my money's worth?)
Overall (not an average)



anyway, what i wanted to ask everyone is what they think would be good criteria to discuss in the general figure? if this is something you would like to read, what would you like to see discussed?

I love the RFSO member blogs. I check toybotstudios' and LASH's frequently. Props to toy bloggers!

I used to do more "toy reviews" when it came to stuff like mechs and what not. There are more elements to review as you noted above. So you end up taking out articulation and accessories and you left with below. I suppose if I was going to add anything, it might be "real estate" reviewing size. Showing the size of a figure relative to a known figure would be nice. ie: had I known that damn Gaburin was so big, I might not have purchased it....

in the end, the nice thing about a blog is that you do and write whatever you want.....

if I may suggest......you may find some resistence if you try to post these subjective values here.......(go for it, if you like. i'm not trying to discourage you.) I would like to see the reaction...

I just like the interactive collab reviews that you get with a board.

A toy is released, people get their hands on it and then start posting about it. Some people bring some depth to their reaction to it. Others don't. Some people explain why they love it. Others point out (hopefully constructive) criticisms versus just being silent. Others rip on it.

A blog might be interesting if you had deep contacts with the toy companies and could provide inside information or insights, but I think its hard enough to keep up with four or five toy boards, myself.

I think blogs (or websites, for the extra-industrious) are a good way to preserve toy reviews. While the forum reviews may ultimately end up being the most interesting, sometimes threads disappear, get locked, etc. On the other hand, when I'm interested in purchasing a toy that came out a while ago, a thorough review can be my best friend.

That's why I blog anyway. That and self-entertainment. Creative writing is sort of therapeutic given what I do for a living...

Anyway, if you find toy blogging fun, go for it. I think we all benefit from more information being 'out there' for our future perusal.

I'm not sure if I have any strict criteria that I use to review kaiju. I think the most important thing is just to convey why it is that you felt the toy was worthy of review.
