I really wasn't commenting on your reaction, but to answer your original question: yes, it is jerky to do this. They could have been jerkier, though.

and i personally don't post auction links or photos.

I really don't have a problem with it, as long as people aren't taking credit for someone else's work. As far as the bandwith issue goes, if I a link to an image on another site, and they have a problem with it, it's up to them to remedy that themselves. Like the way 4chan handles it:

nicodo --
usually, when a member of [any] message board post a picture from another board, they usually link the thread where the picture came from,
or at least write something like "this pic came from this whatever board"

but you're not a stranger here --- you're a board member from here too. that's courtesy. respect to fellow (skullbrain) board members man, you are not a just lurker here, aren't ya?

i thing jackie and horseshoe would have been happy to share their pics on another board if you should've asked them first.

if you just post a pic without any indication where it came from, someone could assume that those pics are yours.

What I said to him on arttoyz was not rude at all.
I simply asked for him to ask people before he uses their pictures.
Really no cause for him to be so hostile.

Wed Mar 01, 2006 2:00 pm

OK, then please accept my sincere apologies if you think what i did was wrong. I understand where you're going, but again, it's not like if I posted it in a blog, writing a news about it, or using it on Ebay to sell, put it in a fanzine. You have to realize i was not looking for fame by posting some pictures from SkullBrain, just (breath) "SHARE" some nice pictures of toys.

Again, sorry if I hurted your feelings, from now on, I will ask a permission from the Photographer (hope a PM will do, because I know emails and PM are not contractual in some countries, and I don't have a fax machine at home - and regular mail would take a long time).

Damn, I didn't know everything was so bloody serious. I might try to call my lawyer next time..

Sorry Horseshoe if i've sounded hostile, the tone of my thoughts were not. But you wrote in french "please do not steal my pics etc", and I don't have the feeling that that was stealing.

But don't worry, from now on, I'll ask you guys. I think we can all move on, great..

Wed Mar 01, 2006 2:10 pm

thanks for the reply.

i think i can speak for all of us when i say you don't need to ask about every picture.

it just would have been nice to know: like if you said "hey, you guys mind if i post these pics elsewhere"

peace,
Jackie

I know all of us have a folder of toy pics on our machines we have pulled from other websites, auctions and all over the internet. I know I do. I think we should all take it with a grain of salt and hopefully some of the artoyz crew will come by and hang out on SB.org and see what else they have not seen. If these guys were really using your photos as a destination for content, I would object more, but they all seem to be hyperactive toy collecting fiends like the rest of us, just posting up pics of cool toys that few of us are lucky enough to own!

At least that is my 10 cents.

That is a good point. I had been thinking about some of these concepts during this discussion, because I know that I have a herculean folder of toy pictures from everywhere imaginable, and I have certainly posted photos on this board that originated from the websites of others (be they companies, auctions, or fellow collectors).

I think that many of us have posted pictures meeting these criteria; it is unlikely that we got permission from SB, REAL x HEAD, Gargamel, Munienie Maderi, or Sin & Wombat before we posted these photos. (i.e ones lifted directly from the respective websites)

I understand both sides of the issue, but I don't think that any especially egregious transgressions have been committed by anybody associated with this thread.

On a tangentially related note, I noticed that Toygraph raised a hubub over a YJA seller using the company website photo of the Meganuron figure in an auction. There is now a stern warning on their webpage advising against the unauthorized usage of their photos.

Thu Mar 02, 2006 2:57 pm

I stole lurkers pic and am using it as my wallpaper right now, permission be damned!

That's the spirit!

I don't have that folder! Am I a loser?!!

Thu Mar 02, 2006 3:46 pm

For me, it's just part of the collector mentality. Collecting toys and collecting pics---especially those of toys that are unobtainable.

Thu Mar 02, 2006 3:49 pm

I had a pictures folder but my computer crashed and that was not one of the things I was able to save from the hard drive, I have none of the photos from my Iphoto either, it fucking sucks.

Thu Mar 02, 2006 10:16 pm

can someone be motherly to a picture?

to be honest, i've always thought my picture are so cruddy that NOBODY would even wanna post them elsewhere.

I'm very protective of my ugly little babies. they awe not ready for pic playschool!!! :D

Anyway, the concept of La Parka going to Artoyz Forum and then going to comment what he saw to his friends to start this reminds me of when I was in 3rd grade.

I sent an e-mail to them, from the blog. Had someone translate it for me too. Received no reply either yes or no. But i've tried to make contact...

I've not used SB graphics as they said they weren't happy with it and i'm cool with that.

Ok, first of all, screw you. I go to Artoyz because I like the place. I didn't 'start' this. I mentioned it to a few people about how japanese vinyl is getting everywhere and how cool it was. And used the post of Jtlhoru's new picture as an example. She was a bit confused so I showed her the forum.

The rest was out of my hands, as I already assumed you'd asked to use the pictures, as would be common courtesy. So in conclusion, hold your tongue laddie..
