Wow! What a great photo! Would love to see these at dusk in a forest filled with fire flies.

Our neighbor called us at 10:30 PM last Monday- he sounded positively giddy, and asked if he could come over, said he had something to show us. Moments later, we met on our front porch, and he was carrying a huge (about 6" by 12") chunk of rotting tree root completely covered with bioluminescent fungus! It was unreal- bright green, so bright it illuminated our faces as we stood around looking at it. He was ripping off little chunks and powdering them between his fingers- looked like stars as it fell!

For a while when i was 17 i used to want to become a mycologist. Some say their caps resemble brains, they are referenced in the bible as mana, etc etc etc. There are so many types of mushrooms its quite amazing. In BC, Canada here we have some of largest amounts of different species.
Mushrooms are great and can be used as tools, my guess is Bwana Spoons knows what Im talking about, judging from his work

I always found Mars-1's work (and to a lesser extent, Oliver Vernon) to remind me of my times eating mushrooms.

Those mushrooms are incredible! I'll put those guys on my growing list of "reasons to go to Japan", heh.
