 so I bought that Charger
currently its being taken apart at the body shop. I ran the VIN number and the fender tag and Mopar Muscle mag sez:
'In 1969, Dodge built a total of 18,544 R/T Chargers with a 440 Magnum V8 engine. Only 3,605 left the factory equipped with a four-speed, floor-shift manual transmission.
. As of two years ago, the Dodge Charger Registry had listed only 40 remaining R/T Chargers with the 440-cubic-inch V8 engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission.'
so...I guess I have #41.
fucking crazy.

What is the top speed you can get in the 4th gear? Must have crazy ratios otherwise I'm guessing 100 mph?

Congrats on the purchase. It's a great car. My old man had a 68 R/T. He sold it to a friend in the mid 70s. The guy promptly got drunk and drove it under a semi trailer, turning it into a convertible and decapitating himself.

no idea. maybe 160-170? the ones they ran at Nascar that year broke 200 mph and set the record, but those had a nose pieve and a flush set rear window to reduce drag.

You must have been desparate for money to sell a car like that. One of my fondest memories is of my dad letting me start the engine of our mid 70's Camaro and one day he let me sit in the driver's seat. I was never old enough to drive it

Ive been to 170 for about 10 secs in a 69 SuperBee 440 Magnum 4-speed....damn near stock too.....you could a watch the Gas gauge drop as the Speedometer climbed!
These speeds are better suited for Japanese Bikes...the real fun with BB Mopars is between 0 and 130 LOL!
Ive drivin them all and really like the 340 4-speed A-body match up best....the 340in the smaller A-body eats up most B-Body 383's and 440's...well up to 150MPH that is.
I ride my bike a lot more now a days LOL!
Frank so what ever happened to your Roadrunner?

It was one of those situations that gets thrown at you in life. Wish I could have kept it and sold it now because they are worth about 4 times what I sold it for. Just to put the icing on the cake it had a ZZ4 in it.

I am going to paint it suede semigloss black
here it is as of saturday, right before it went to the body shop
they are going to strip it down, replace all the rusted areas and put in a new interior. I'll have it back in early january.

oh..that's a lovely piece of American Muscle. Frank, are you just painting it straight black with no racing stripes? Hope there isn't much rust on it.

GOD! That's BADASS!!! From what I can see in tha pic Frank the body looks really clean, did it have much rust around tha fender wells? Anyway once you get it back and start driving it around your going to feel 10ft tall.
Nothing like a 4spd tranny with some power underneath tha hood.Do you know what tha rearend is geared?

I think the dana has 3.54 gears. this car is easily puling 500-525 HP. big cam, solid lifters. it has a A833 18 spline transmission, which is pretty darn good transmission..and the Dana rear id an oversized truck axle basically so its real solid drivetrain..all factory.
tons of rust on the lowers and trunk, which is why its at the sheetmetal shop, all thats getting cut out and patched with new metal. It looks reallt raw, but its a very solid car other than the cosmetics, which are easily fixable. I figure it will take about a year to go over everything and make it all like I want. when its all done up then I'll drop a new motor in it and it'll be good for the rest of my life.

Dana's are built like a tank, good to know everything is pretty much factory. So many people get these older car's and change alot of stuff on them,3.54 gear is a great gear plenty for both worlds, good bottom end grunt and plenty of top end too....Tha Charger was alway's one of tha most intimidating car's of it's time,..Keep us updated..

Black?
Paint it plum crazy or sublime. Maybe a stripe wrapped around the rear with the R/T. You gotta ditch those rims too!
