Winter in the Northeast: beautiful? Certainly.
Also an enormous pain in the ass?
Without question.
20" so far, 6" more to fall overnight.
Bah!
Thanks for allowing my annual winter-venting....

it's passed through for now here. it's a pain in the ass to shovel though. it's the worst when the rain comes right afterward.

It's not that bad in Buffalo now actually. They predicted serious lake effect snow here but we have only about 6-7 inches here tops. Actually it's the south and east of us that really get hit. Till I moved to Buffalo 2 years ago I was also under the myth that it was snow capital usa. Not so really...

on the contrary, i get sick of no winter weather and 100+ temps with high humidity in the summers.
it got up to 80 here last week... depressing when all you want is some cozy cold weather around xmas time

It's true...we can all find things to complain about in the places we live...and the grass is always greener, etc etc.....
Siphilon, I'm in Plainfield- about fifteen minutes out of Montpelier.
I shoveled four times today, including a roof...my body's like "No mas....no...mas......."
There's actually really fine ice coming down right now, steadily...the morning commute should be interesting....

I hate snow so I moved south (also housing costs) so I feel for you. Plus it's NOT beautiful in a big city, turns black and grey in seconds, so where I'm from you don't even get the benefit of beauty.

I hear that - was up early this morning shoveling. 20" though - jeez. We've gotten more snow this year (so far) than the last couple of years combined. I love seeing all four seasons, but in WI spring and fall last about five days, so I'd gladly trade that for warm weather all the time.

I like the Bob Dylan quote" You can't shovel the sun."
This part of Texas escapes most of the humidity and tornado's. We had 4 days of clouds and rain this past week. About the most depressin week all year.
I was born in Iowa so I feel your pain for the shovel this time of year.

I grew up in South Jersey, Vineland to be exact. I swear it has a protective bubble over it or something because it never snows there. Rarely did we get snow days as a kid. It sucked. Now I miss 'not having snow'!

Unfortunately we got a lot here last night too. It figures, all of the roads are clear except for OURS! I slid like 3 houses past ours last night as I was coming home. I was only going like 5mph too!

it was supposed to actually get below 40 here overnight ... not sure if it made it down that far or not though. kind of a rarity.
