I suppose it's another "statement" about a pop culture "icon".

I could care less about it and whether it became a sculpt or not.
Just drifting too far into tv pop culture for me. Wasn't there a Bart too?

I don't know, I think he's actually working with the Spongebob brand on this one.

Probably. Just like he worked with Lucas on the Darth Vader figure.

I just don't like that his trademark is getting more diluted with each colab. The kimsons at least looked similar to the companion. It was more of the KAWS face in the the outline of the figure he was mimicking.

Now its just bones slapped on the side of the head and X'x on top of the pupil. Ist like he isn't even trying anymore.

It's gotten to the point of gimmick rather than collaboration..

He has sucked since he made toys. His concept of changing ads and being "anti-fashion" and capitalism was awesome, but now he is a perfect example of the douche type trendy consumerism crap he got famous for hating. Wow.

Only way there will be a great KAWS release in the future is if there is another colorway for KAWSvPushead Companion released

KAWS is a no talent hack.

What I personally don't like about this one is how 'soon' it seems. KAWS generally goes for older, more established characters and icons and then does his thing. Mickey Mouse, the Simspons, etc., etc. are all quite old compared to Spongebob Squarepants. What's next?

It's like he's getting ahead of himself in this tired style.

as people have said before, he can slap on some x'd out eyes and bone ears on anything and sell out of them instantly. as long as he's making money on it whilst maintaining his 'cred' i doubt he gives a shit.

I think the whole point is he isn't retaining any "cred"

Hip hop kids are stupid now a days, oh I like apes and cartoon characters and shirts with Ice Cream on them and pretending I am in a billionaire boys club and I want my shoes to have as many colors on them as possible, preferably from a skateboarding line that are limited even though I can't skate and even if I did I wouldn't rock these shoes to do it in but I need something to balance out my brightly colored allover printe hoodie.

Kaws is for the uneducated as far as street culture goes, along with all the mentioned brands. Call it new school if you want but part of that is taking some history along with you of what has been prior, and none of those companies do it. Looking like a stupid toddler has no cred on any street I have been on.
Thats why these brands are only talked about on cookie cutter main stream rap songs and are usually warn by kids that have no idea about street life, ghettos, or half the shit in rap songs.

Why are these brands popular? Cookie cutter rap is made, marketed and sold to suburban white kids, and the rappers talk about and wear this shit, usually cuz they get hooked up and these stupid idiot kids that don't even know about the brands that usually end up wearing fakes are the only ones that can afford to buy this type of worthless crap and think it has some value, or "cred".

Kaws has become the poster child of the whack ass kindergarten street style shit collaborating on shit like this, bape and BBC.

i'm not into bape or BBC but alot of mc's have mentioned them both in a positive way and are hardly 'cookie cutter' mainstream. sean price, weezy, clipse etc.

I actually grew up in long beach moved there from OC when I was 8. bunch of friends have been in wa-ching, TRG, asian boys, serenos 13, sons of samoa and such, working at raves back in the day I had to deal with a lot of activity by groups wanting to push boats, thats 1000 e pills, at parties so I decided it would be best to have friends in groups without becoming involved. My parents moved from LBC when I was fifteen, I decided to stay and live on my own as I was making decent money and lived there until I went to school at SDSU and now am back in OC.

=)

Conqueror there are exceptions to every rule, Nigo hooks up rappers with gear all the time, if I got a few grand in free clothes and liked them I would name drop.

I love spongebob but I agree this collab is a bit weak. I liked the Kimpsons one much more. Kaws has done a lot of good work so it's fine with me that he's milking his fame now. As much as I'd like to see him reinvent himself and move onto something other than X's and skullbones, if he can sell out whatever he puts out all the more power to him.

I would definitely consider weezy and clipe (who is pretty much owned by pharrerl) main stream.

weezy in the last five years or so, maybe. i def wouldn't say clipse are 'mainstream' yet (look at recent album sales) even with them doing shit with pharrell. obviously more well known/had more exposure than sean price and boot camp clik though. if you asked the average backpacker hip hop fan who clipse were i doubt most would have an idea.

edit: but hey, i don't live in the states. what do i know haha.

+1

On a side note I'm going to start a gang called "the x eyes" we will carve x's into the eyes of our enemies in an attempt to give Kaws more street cred. We will also row boats at raves.
