That sucks.

I'm Hispanic, so an allergy to beans would be a death sentence.

What the hell can you substitute for Soy?

its mild and so far its kind of a crap shoot as to what will make me react. Soy is pretty much in everything but ive been ok so far. I just try to stay away from anything that super soy based. Although I had some tofu around christmas and was fine. I had a veggie patty on saturday and it made me freak out.

See, I didn't want to go there.

Food allergies in general suck, but especially when it's something that's in everything else.

Good luck, I hope it's something that clears up eventually.

I have two nephews that are allergic to a BUNCH of food types... my 6 year old nephew is allergic to dairy, wheat and soy... the older nephew luckily has outgrown a number of his food allergies, but he still can't have any soy products.

They handle it surprisingly well... I guess it's a case of them not missing something they never really had too much of in the first place.

I actually love soy stuff (and meat) I'm glad I'm not allergic to any food. That sucks, I'd hate to be allergic to any food. Especially peanut butter, what's with kids today!?!?

important to note. I am not vegetarian. like chris said soy is basically in all processed and packaged foods. I have a friend who is vegan and developed the same allergy. I also know alot of tattooers and nurse who over the years developed bad latex allergies. I feel old btw.

I forgot to mention that my nephews are remarkably fit for their ages... I guess their allergies have kinda helped eliminate the majority of junk foods from their diet...

Good point. Besides, isn't most soy product, like the corn derivatives that are also in everything genetically altered Monsanto "soy" these days? I'm not knee-jerk about that sort of thing, just cautious as I'm not convinced that enough time has passed for us to know the potential effects of such tampering. It takes more effort to eat wholesome foods and I know that they aren't readily available everywhere, but it sure seems to help with some conditions.

I've outgrown most of my allergies, and I'm just starting to try different foods again.
i was allergic to nuts and shellfish and had a similar reaction to yours kirkland. it's no fun at all.

Two years ago I also had a bad reaction to a flu shot that almost killed me. My blood pressure dropped way too much and I got taken out of work in an ambulance.

Allergies are nothing to mess around with. If you think you're allergic to something, get tested for it. you might have mild reactions now, but every time it could get a lot worse.

Prepackaged food is getting more and more dubious. Thankfully I don't have any major allergies (that I know of, at least), but what makes me crazy nowadays is the proliferation of labels that state "MAY contain X, Y, or Z", or "Contains one of the following . . .".

I mean, I just don't feel comfortable eating something when even the manufacturer isn't sure what's in it.

that's just to do with being manufactured in a place where the 'may contain' ingredients are used for other products, like on a belt, in a vat or whatever. it's to warn people who are deadly (or otherwise) allergic to avoid. At least that's my understanding of it

don't think i've come across the 'contains one of the following' before, that's pretty weird.

soy allergy would suck. I'm allergic to about everything but foods. I do have a severe food allergy to fish (not shellfish) to the point where nothing can even touch the fish then touch my food or I can go anaphylactic. It sucks because sometimes I'll be at a restaurant eating nothing that even resembles fish and my lips will blow up. It sucks because I found out I had this allergy when I was about 10 by eating fish. Fortunately, since then, I carry an epipen and have never had a scare that benadryl couldn't take care of! Good luck with your allergy, hopefully it only gets better for you.
