i hate to be 'that guy', but did anyone even on here care/know about usugrow before he did the rebel ink for secret base?
ps i have been a pretty big fan for a while, have always been interested how you would write 'usugrow' in hiragana/katakana. it would have to be like u-su-go-ro or something?

I knew of him because I have friends all about tattoos, same reason I knew about Mike Giant, but I didn't really like him for a bit because he did stuff with Famous stars and straps. Which around these parts is a super bro 9er company started by the godfather of the Inland Empire 909er bro movement, Travis Barker. Until recently thats what I connected him with. Then he did the SB piece which I liked a lot and I am liking the new stuff I have seen. Can't say I like anything other than his skulls though as far as the art goes. He seems like a rad guy though.

he did a shirt and a skatedeck for them i think. he also did work with tribal gear. the design he did for tribal looked better than the famous stuff.

The famous stuff dropped in forms of t-shirts, one limited one widespread (lettering only, no artwork) and a skate deck that I have seen.

i dont know why I am even bothering to entertain u with a response. but who cares how long someone has been a fan of something, as long as their sincere and genuine about their love ?
this is the whole elite mentality that turns people off to the boards, or anything "underground" for that matter.
i been a fan of pushead for 20+ years, hooray do i win a medal? it just proves i'm old
have you looked at pushead's hyperstoic book #4 with Saga chang, pus and Ususgrow work from like 2003?
yeah we have been fans for a while "guy".
thx for the insight though.

Personally I'd never heard of him, but the same could be said about a world of other artists too . . . anything that exposes talent to broad like-minded audiences has gotta be a good thing right?
Same happened with Ashley Wood at SDCC . . . bring on the next 'artist' I ain't heard of . . . progress is good!

I have been a fan of his since he did the 13th day of fear box set before his rebel ink figure.

If I remember correctly, board reaction to the first photo of the sculpt was very mixed when first shown here. Mainly due to the fact that people werent sure if his art would translate. .

And I think it's still fairly mixed. I love Usugrow's pen/ink work, but I don't particularly care for his Secret Base figure. As others have said, the head is alright, but the body just doesn't do it.

I guess I'm old too!
As for Usugrow...I first saw his art for punk bands in flyer and record cover form from japan about 10 years ago...I though it was ok to decent. He has definitely evolved and is a TON better in my opinion!
