The State of Washington has passed a toy safety bill requiring proof that toys are free of toxic materials. While I think this is great for toys intended for children that could ingest lead or whatever, I have a concern that this could affect the kaiju I like so much.

Maybe the warnings already on the headers are enough to convey that these are not for the kiddies, but I am a little concerned that some narrow minded agency will not distinguish between adult collectible toys & rugrat toys.

Has the bill been posted online yet? I'd like to see the language of it, but you can bet that if those Spongebob Squarepants slippers don't pass the test for phthalates, our vinyls definitely won't.

Also, those warnings on the headers aren't always there, nor are they always consistent. Jim Woodring's Mr. Bumper says it's okay for children, doesn't it?

The law kicks in next January, I beleive. I think if distributers could have a way to overtly state that our beloved Kaiju are for 'adults only' (maybe a clear coverbag with all the disclaimers in big red letters), the applicability of the law could be diverted.

And most of you are saying, "Oh - that's in Washington State. It does not affect me." Just wait, this is the sort of bill that other states rapidly copy.

that's what they are hoping for other states following suit. hopefully it gets put together well and the childrens toys get stricter and it doesn't affect the collectable areas of toys cause, who is not going to want to keep toxic toys out of the hands of children. thinking about it though most collectable toys are not sold in stores with a high child traffic (or at least that is how it seems to me)

yeah this could put a damper on our parade
