 My Bloody Valentine tour
Anyone else here going to any of the recently announced MBV tour shows? My G/F got me tickets to the Toronto show Sept 25th for my birthday. It will be amazing to see them again 16 years later. I saw them 3 times in 1992 and I still say I lost part of my hearing from those shows. I wonder if it will be as loud or any new songs will be introduced?

Thanks wretchrd!! If any Bay Area people are going, let's meet up. The last time I saw MBV was on their Loveless tour and it was awesome.

Love the band but they were terrible live when they were actually together...about 20 years ago. 20 bucks says Shields freaks out and bails before it even happens. The records still rule though...

The records still rule though... I saw them 3 times in the Philly area (TLA, Trocadero, and City Gardens) during the loveless tour and I thought they sounded amazing. The live sound was always a completely different sound from the studio stuff Shields did. Maybe they had equipment problems when you saw them, I know they did have some problems on that tour with gear. I agree with you on Kevin Shields flaking. I keep thinking in my head: "He better not flake, he better not flake.."

 Re: My Bloody Valentine tour
Saw them a few times - each time the PA was so loud it just sounded like pure noise. The vocals (when they actually decide to even try to sing) were terrible. Since then I located some live recordings that pretty much confirmed they were playing like shit and barely singing. Amazing band, amazing albums (even the pre-Creation EPs were great), but from what I've experienced, not a band I'd ever need to see perform again. I'm generally against comebacks anyway, there's no dignity in it.

 Re: My Bloody Valentine tour
I saw an interview with Shields where he was asked why the band quit at the peak of their popularity. He said "it's because I'm mentally ill." Hm, didn't seem like he was joking. Anyway, I wouldn't miss 'em for the world. So glad they're playing SF. Bring the wall of noise!

I bought tickets for the Chicago show. I'm hoping that my excitement and anticipation doesn't make it impossible for me to enjoy them.

 Re: My Bloody Valentine tour
So I can't wait to see MBV tomorrow in Toronto. Anyone here catch them in NYC this week? From what I gather (and from what I recall seeing them in 92) ear protection is a must. I read somewhere Shields got it up to 132db in NYC, which by all accounts is pretty fucking loud. I've already warned my g/f who has never seen them.

 Re: My Bloody Valentine tour
I saw them for the Loveless tour in St. Petersburg FL and there was this really odd mosh pit stage diving thing going on... so bizarre I thought they sounded pretty amazing but then again I was completely smashed outta' my flippin' mind that evening... wish they were playing closer to home...

 Re: My Bloody Valentine tour
Funny when I saw them on the Loveless tour people were doing the same thing (stage-diving) but then again it happened when I saw Ride or any other band at that time. Must have been that era. People stage dived to anything. Now we live in a total PC world and everyone is afraid to do that stuff. At least at indie shows.
I'm happy to report that seeing them now (16 years later) WILL NOT ruin your older experience. Alot of these come back tours make you wish you never went to keep the old memory sacred. Last night seriously brought me back in time and it looked and felt EXACTLY like 91-92 all over again. I started the evening with earplugs, but soon I was like "fuck it" and pulled them out to experience them full on again. Set was almost exactly the same as 92. Light show was even better. Kevin had no technical problems so the show went smooth. Gotta love how the man has an army of jaguars and jazzmasters at his disposal each tuned for a particular song. It's like a gear freaks wet dream!

 Re: My Bloody Valentine tour
Ride was the shit.
I saw them in 92-93(?) too at Bogart's in Long Beach.
"Dreams burn Down" with the strobe was amazing.
I don't think anyone understood what was going on. I was elated to say the least.

 Re: My Bloody Valentine tour
wish i could've seen these bands back in that era...none ever made it to arizona, except for slowdive and the cocteau twins. both excellent, but somewhat mellow shows.

Gala is such a great album and Emma is fucking hot...!!! would have love to have seen Ride but never had the opportunity... Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins is no joke fucking seriously my all time favorite vocalist on the entire freekin' planet...!!! She is the queen bee if you will and puts my tortured soul at ease whenever I'm feeling down...

Bad assed song that one! Another really good band that really surprised me live was The Pale Saints. Fantastic. I saw Lush for the Spooky tour. They were amazing. Too bad touring with Lolapalooza turned their minds to drunken mush and led the drummer to suicide. Emma, lovely (Hot) and is now in a band called "Sing sing" which I'm not too into. There's LOTS of new stuff that follows these lines of this type music thanks god and it's all nice and underground still
