 Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
Does anyone know how to send a gift payment from a Chinese PayPal account by any chance? I have a buyer who would like me to ship to a non-verified address, so to add some seller protection I would like them to pay with a gift payment. They can't seem to find the gift payment option though.
Can anyone help?

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
No can do, sir.
My korean Paypal does not allow gift payment, the option is replaced with "other" and then you just add in the 4% to your total and that is that.
Ive always had this problem (no "gift" option)
Hope that helps a little, if any.

Can't speak for the Paypal options, but the international versions are so much less user friendly. This has potential bad news written all over it James, and I would be wary either way. I think 'gift' payments leave you even less to come back on anyhow.

I have to agree with this, being at the mercy of foreign postal services is enough of a reason to not do gift payment. I just did like a fake payment on my paypal, and the other options, that is: 'shared expenses', 'owed payments', 'other', et al. Give the option of taking the 4% yourself or the receiver of the money. The 'goods' Etc. Options do not allow for this, thus you have to calculate the % as you submit the amount. I hope that helps a bit more. Cheers!

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
Why do people insist on not just accepting the cost of PayPal's service in the value of what you're selling?
Do you pay bank fees?
Merchant fees when you pay on card?
Paypal service is just an extension on that..

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
I think for some it has to do with being taxed as a business after certain number or transactions or an amount of money.
I for example, cannot make purchases more than $800, regardless on Paypal's limits for others, it just tells me to go to the bank and do a wire transfer. :s
It all depends on your area I guess, but I am sure it has to do with being taxed differently.

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
Well in the EU if you transact a certain amount via Paypal they assume you're a business user and ask you to verify that to check you're being charged correctly.
As for this particular transaction, it sounds far too open to them f-ing you over with no recourse. I'd walk away, personally!

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
These are all of the options and the descriptions, other than that there is nothing else that can be done to send money Here reciever takes the fee Here either person takes the fee Iuno, At least here are some pretty pics. I hope it shows a little better what it is. When people ask me for 'gift' I do other and take the %. thats how I send those payments. :s

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
In this particular case I'm not worried about fees. I'm just wanting protection from the buyer being able to say, "they never shipped anything," because their address isn't the same address that they want the item shipped to. The buyer is in China, but wants me to ship to a US address.

The buyer is in China, but wants me to ship to a US address. Then you would have him add that info in the notes as he checks out. Then you can tell Paypal that he explicitly told you that. as well as any correspondence from the same email address telling you to send it to the US and not China. That is how I do it.

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
This sounds like a really bad idea, TiredChildren. If it were me, I would only accept payment as Goods (not a Gift) and I would only ship to the address supplied by Paypal. The system is set up this way for a reason.
I have gotten to the point where I will accept zero shenanigans. I was recently asked by Person A if they could have Person B pay for their item via Paypal, but have me ship it to Person A. No thanks. Been there, done that, watched the train wreck.

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
^ I agree with Roger. Anything with any value I make sure there is a confirmed address. If the buyer really wants the item they will understand, if not someone else will buy it. I don't want to be the jerk who doesn't hand out favors to people on here, but I also don't want to be the gullible guy who gets screwed by not using the secure system that paypal has put in place.

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
I do like someone suggested, have buyers include "I will not hold the seller responsible if I do not receive the item" in their notes. Never had an issue. I've done it myself a number of times as a buyer on eBay and not been screwed. USPS / CanadaPost are reliable enough that I not want to pay the extra $20 for tracking...

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
Including such a note actually matters, were Paypal to be asked to investigate?

Yuck!!! wrote: Including such a note actually matters, were Paypal to be asked to investigate? Well, if you think about it, there are instances where you might not be able to get the package delivered to the address, say; vacation or you're out of town. In those instances you would not want the item to be sent to a place where it will either just sit there and get lost or be returned to sender. I should mention that I have changed my address for when I ship stuff, but the name of the receiver (mine) is always the same. That I have never changed, since that is involving extra people. I can see how paypal would have to accommodate for that and providing a way to defend themselves would they be asked to ship to a diff address for extraneous circumstances. The notes are for that in my books.

 Re: Overseas PayPal Gift Payment
I would think Paypal would just say something to the effect, "That is against our policy" blah blah blah.
