They also consider this the biggest science project in history, according to the article http://news.aol.com/story/_a/critics-fe ... 5609990001

Re: New machine can bring end of the world?
yup, its a big step in our search for the elusive Higgs Boson particle. understanding it can lead to things like cold fusion, and FTL (eventually waaay down the road) star trek stuff...

Re: New machine can bring end of the world?
I predict that this will open up an inter-dimensional rift, through which Godzilla will appear and destroy the world in 2012, thereby fulfilling some other prophesies as well...
Also appearing through this rift will be the four horsemen of the apocalypse, ET, Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa...
Seriously...technology is either going to save our asses from ourselves or kill us all anyway...when you think about the decline in the environment over the past couple hundred years (or at least since the industrial revolution), it is obvious that if a few geniuses don't pull a miracle (or two) out of their big brain caps, we will eventually eliminate all but the most hardy organisms from the planet, due mainly to our greedy desire to have more than what the planet will comfortably sustain.

I suppose I could part with one doomsday device and still be feared.
