Here here kontact, very good points (regarding dubstep). I really hate celebrity DJ's or dipshits that get booked for absolutely no skills because they can network and convince even bigger hipster dipshits they're good.

I'm sad I sold my 1200's 6 years ago (they were 10 years old though). Sometimes I want to make a mix for myself using all this vinyl and when I would look at prices online could not believe turntables were selling for like 700 clams? Wow when I bought mine they were 350-400 new. Now that they're being discontinued (why I'll never know but I guess I'm a relic that would rather spin vinyl that mix mp3's) I'm sure the value will increase because they no longer make them to well over 1000! So I'll probably never be able to get another set.

This is true to a point. but lets get real. DNB hasn't done anything in manny years. The only new stuff it has come up with is maybe circus bass, otherwise it has been stagnate for many years. Even most of the great DNB producers are jumping on the Dubstep train. "Dubstep is basically taking ideas/sounds/samples originated in DNB, adding some fire alarms and other circus instruments, with a dash of pop bullshit and a slower "danceable" beat" DNB din't originate any samples. (that is why they are called samples). I would have to say 99% of all their samples came from American music ie.. Jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop. Maybe the wobble bass could be traced back to DNB. But not much more. But who cares music needs to evolve. That is the biggest problem with music in any genre. If it stays the same its no better that the crap on the radio.

Im not writing this to stick up for dubstep. In reality I like about 5% of the stuff that comes out. But when I first heard Dubstep I felt like it was a natural progression for my favorite electronic music (jungle and DNB). This is a a complaint that I hear amongst most of us aging folks. I hear it from the electronic music seen and I certainly hear it amongst the aging hip-hop seen. For those folks I have to say, there is good music and there is bad music no matter what period in time it came from.

I know most of the music that is being released today is crap and for that I blame technology. Ever since computers could do what it used to take $100 grand to produce in a studio everyone is now a dj / producer or some kind of musician with out any real training. Then they it released to the masses. This lead to a surge of crappy music. But on the flip side of this is has enabled us to create without being rich. Its a catch 22.

I personally love all kinds of music. I feel like it helps me understand better what is crap and what is not. I have been a DJ in San Francisco for 10 years and I have seen the seen go through many changes, Thats probably why I don't DJ much anymore. The seen has evolved beyond me. I can't get mad at that its the natural progression.

P.S. Sorry for the diplo mix, but I thought it was relevant to what we were talking about at the moment.
and congratz on the 1200th post. The Technic 1200 thing makes me depressed :(

P.S.S. If your a DJ and you don't know how to beat match, PLEASE DON"T PLAY OUT!!!!!!!!!! You are fucking it up for us real DJ's that rely on that money to pay bills. Besides that train wrecking on the dance floor will not get you more gig's

Sorry for the rant, but its a sore subject

make that two relics lixx

i find most dubstep annoying but there are a few artists like burial or scuba that take it in a different direction. there's something about the depth of their sounds, space between beats and subtle washes of techno that i like. reminds me of chain reaction and basic channel tracks.

This my age showing here, but I have to ask what the hell is 'circus bass'? Sounds like something god awful I'd never want to hear as I hate clown sounds.

Anyhow I never really was into these tracks when they came out but somehow the record was in my collection. Just digitized Marvellous Cain- Dubplate Style/ Jump Up. Oh my, love them:

I guess, think of it more as an adjective. Crazy bass lines, lots of layered synths
Im not sure if this is a good example but maybe this

Jeb I have a funny story about Borderline -Screwface. In 1997, I started a very short lived online store called Champion Sound. Anyhow Watts actually let me have an account so I drove out to the warehouse and began searching for any older vinyl they had. The place was so disorganized you never knew where anything was. I did find some gems, including 8 copies of this record in mint shape! I remember stopping by Breakbeat on my way back and Dara was like "fucking hell you found those there?!" I think I sold my last, and personal copy of it through discogs last year. Kind of sad as I love that record. I really love the mellow remix of it also! Choon!

sounds just like my monthly trips to SRD in seven sisters for breakbeatscience in 97-2001...i would always come out of there with surprises...

although once i had scanned every shelf & corner of the warehouse over that time,,,the flow started to dwindle significantly towards the end...

That's right you were BB's man in the UK at that time. One place I would have loved raiding around that time would have been Vinyl Distribution! Well maybe, didn't Southern get more jungle/ dnb?

Re: the darkside has me pretty bad- oldskool jungle heads?

Sat Jan 29, 2011 6:01 pm

vinyl distribution in Reading either didn't have much of a forgotten backstock or they were holding out on the gems!!!!

i would only collect upfront promos (mostly metalheads/31records/q project type stuff) & pay BB invoices with them...

whereas srd was sitting on what was left of all the old reinforced,,formation,,ganja,,,tom&jerry,,ram,,moving shadow catalogues (formidable forces in the early jungle scene   )

wasn't southern a part of vinyl distribution?? i remember little of them,,,they must have been after my time :?:

This was/is one of the most coveted pieces of dnb vinyl, I think I am the only one out of all of my DJ/dnb friends to actually own it, such a disgusting track and was not easy to find. I believe both tunes on the record are Dom n' Roland remixes:

This is actually a remake of an old Kaotic Chemistry track called 'Drum Trip' on Moving Shadow. This was put out on a subsidiary label of theirs called Audio Couture. I have two versions one a regular press and another a clear vinyl press. Great track. You can't go wrong with Dom & Roland.

Yeah they were. The record made no actual reference to Drum Trip, and they were just called Rollers Edit and Chaos Edit. Definitely updated remixes I believe though. Here is the original:
