Am I really the only person left on Earth without...
a freakin' Ipod?????
Thats right, I don't own an Ipod!!!
Someone at work this morning actually said and I quote, "You don't have an ipod? What the fucks wrong with you?"
So am I the only one here who doesn't have one? I the only one left that wasn't brainwashed by Steve Jobs into believing that my life is meaningless without listening to music 24 hours a day?!?!?!?!?

We have a bunch of them around the house (kids and upgrades when new models come out). I use mine when running mostly. Love 'em.

I have one of the second generation series that came out so by this point this thing is highly outdated in techie land!
10GB's of goodness is all that I have ever needed though. I use it for biking but for the most part it has literally become more of a portable hard drive than anything else.
I love it but it kills me to think what I paid for it back then!

Nope - I like having to be in one place and consciously listening to music. If all a song is suited for is background to your life, it's not really worth your ear's time.

Well there's nothing wrong with you but Ipods kick ass...I spend too much of my day walking/riding the train so portable devices are essential! Got one of the new video ones now, so I can catch up on my tv watching on the train too!
Often imitated, but Apple just must have the best industrial engineers in the world b/c they're always pushing the form factor to new levels...nothing looks slicker or feels more solid than an Ipod...Apple should hire me to sell the damn things...

I don't have an MP3 player, but I do have satellite radio and can't imagine life without it.

Never had an Ipod, I have a cheap little MP3 player which is good for Skateboarding and Snowboarding because it's so small and I'm not worried about breaking it, but it only holds around 40 songs I think so that gets kind of shitty.

i have to agree with laffin to a certain extent.
my deal is i still love the classic album format. some music is meant to be heard as part of a whole, imo.
i know you could just upload all the songs in a row, but it kind of kills the experience for me. i'll download and listen to stuff off the computer, but its just not the same as putting a beloved CD (or record) on.
still, i'll end up getting an mp3 player. maybe soon to help ameliorate some lengthy flights this summer.

Sort of related to iPods, at least in the sense of not physically putting a cd in or a record on the player, I have something like 60 days of music on an external hard drive... mostly rock, classical, and jazz, organized so that I can, say, just listen to classical, or rock, or whatever, for a long time and never hear the same tune twice... random play and away we go... great for background while working, etc.

I own a 40GB iPod and rarely use it anymore. Kinda regret buying it.
Fun for a while, you know, listening to the Matrix soundtrack or something while hurdling along on the subway. Life suddenly has a soundtrack as you move through it.
But these days, I enjoy some silence when I can catch it. Or just to be alone with my thoughts. I don't need/want to have constant electronic images, sound or video every waking hour.
The MBTA (Boston subway) is always plastered with ads for iPods. Boston has alot of students and you see ipod people everywhere these days. And that's become a turnoff to me. Like people who talk on cellphones in public.
I still steal music off usenet but only use itunes. And on computers at home or in the office. Huge music collection like others, but I rarely buy CDs anymore...

I had the first one that ever came out, before iTunes even existed for the PC. I loved it before iTunes. Now I use a mobi blu, becasue walmart is cooler than apples these days.
I have about 250 gigs of music all DJ sets from the early 80's until now about 18 months worth of music. I am trying to get a dam sling box to work with my phone. Once we get it working I will be able to listen to all my music and control my comcast box from my phone (treo700p) anywhere I can find a wirless network. The future is a shiny happy place.

I got mine specifically for the car. I was horrible with cds. I had a visor holder thing, but still would constantly bring in more cds than would fit and double and triple up on cases and stuff woudl get cracked etc.
so I got a new stereo with an aux input and an ipod and now I never use cds in the car and when I buy them they get ripped to the computer and then stay fresh and new on the shelf.

I don't think anybody should feel bad about not having one, certainly, or that that they are really necessary for anything.
I have, however, enjoyed using mine during exercise - that is really the only time I use it. I just download random tracks and head out the door waiting to be surprised. Keeps things interesting.
