Post Does anyone sell un lit trees?
We need a replacement Christmas tree, and the only ones I see anymore are pre-lit.

I know you will try to tell me how much more convenient, and hassle free this is. Nay, I say.

I will tell you that I enjoy decorating my tree, (even the lights) and that you will be fucked when those puppies burn out, whereas you can just buy a new string of lights if those go bad!

So, any thoughts, artificial trees that are not pre-lit? Keep your eyes peeled!

Same here. I don't think I've ever seen a lot with trees that were already lit.

@Missy...I love those little knee hugging elves! I still have a lot of that stuff in your pics above from my childhood. My mother saved all of it and gave it to me a few years ago.

When I was very young she would move the elves around the room while I was sleeping or not looking and put candy in their arms. I thought they were magical!

After buying a real tree the year before last, I am firmly in the fake tree camp. It took months before I got rid of all of the needles in my carpet. Maybe one day when I have a house with wood floors.

Good point on the lightbulbs burning out on the pre-lit fake trees.

I'm waiting for those transgenic trees that incorporate firefly DNA. No need to plug them in!

I always found it odd that some of the same people who would balk at hanging a deer's head on the wall would have no problem bringing a beautiful thing into their house like a tree or cut flowers and enjoy watching them slowly die...

Fake tree for me. Spent a bit too much on one this year, but its pretty huge, and looks realistic for once. Put it up last weekend 8)

Fake trees are creepy.

But to answer your question, I have seen unlit trees at Home Depot this season.

I have some un-lit trees. I have a lit one in the ashtray next to me also.

That's kind of cool.
Now if it's possible to mount it on the ceiling like a chandelier

Oh, I thought the upside down tree would hang from the ceiling... that would've solved my crazy cat problem. Oh well...

Ha! That's what we have - shiny silver, and completely pop art - it rules.
Some friends of mine did an entire book about these:

I agree on the effort and $$$. But I think they are worth it for the tradition and atmosphere they provide.

Plus, the fake-pine candle smell can't hold a candle to the real pine freshness of a tree.
