The other day I discovered some emails were missing from my inbox. I just let stuff accumulate in my inbox, I don't sort it or archive it or anything. So when I couldn't find them, I started to panic as they were invoices for a business that I run on the side.

I finally discovered them in the trash which made no sense as I'd never trash them.

Did some investigating and it turns out my account was hacked and settings were compromised so that copies of email were being forwarded to an unknown address. Did some more investigating and the domain registered to Miami University with an Ohio billing address. Did some more investigating and it turns out the email address belongs to someone in Vietnam.

Had to do searches throughout my email for cc numbers and any other private information.

Apparently this isn't an isolated incident as it has happened to others.
How they cracked my password is beyond me.

Anyhoo, just a heads up should you use gmail.

Gmail is an easy hack. There is no privacy with email unless you buy a premium service, but even those have their holes.
