Someone told me this adage once when I had just moved to LA from the UK, and was lamenting the discovery that when people I met said "yeah, lets get together", what they really meant was "not in this lifetime":
In NY they say: "Fuck You", but mean "have a nice day"
In LA they say: "Have a nice day", but mean "Fuck you"
After working with both the LA office and the NY office when I worked at Universal Music, I definitely found that to be somewhat accurate.
