only certain numbers can be an answer for that question... so the same gift is named under those numbers.

The board is already set up to give you the answers even though visually it seems random. (You can automatically throw out the answer for 90-99 because when you are asked to take a 2 digit number and subtract...it's impossible to come up with those.) 99-9-9=81. So 81 is the lowest you can get. Therefore the board only goes from 1-81

One pattern is that if you got 9, 18, 27 etc (multiples of 9) you get one answer.

Yeah, but the key is what number you finally pic.

So I have been skipping the first part and going straight for the second 2 digit number and it cocks it up.
It must be basing it on the first one you pick, I like picked 53, which became 45 and she got it.
But when I just skipped that and picked 12 and then 14 she didn't.

She sucked I won cuz I cheated! HAHA I rule! :)

The trick is it doesnt matter. The answer is always 9 based. For example: if you pick 17 it's 17-1-7 = 9, if you pick 14 it's 14-1-4 = 9. If you pick 73 it's 73-7-3 = 63. Look at it like this, the number you get is going to be 9 times X, where X is the first digit of the 2 digit number. 14 = 9, 33 = 27, etc.

The only thing they've done here is to make sure that ALL 9 multiples (9, 18, 27...) are covered by the same thing as bryce has said

9 is the magic number.

Yeah...it's a math thing. There is a man who is a mathmatical genius who said we should always start with 0-9 versus 1-10 when counting.

He said every two digit number (regardless of the number) when worked in this formula will always equal 9.

Try this... Take any two digit number. (Ex: 67) Then add the two digits together (6+7=13)

Subtract it from the original (67-13=54) THen add them together... 5+4=9

This will work for every number.

Post Re: screw that card game mindreader, how does this work?!
So, After reading bryce's post a coulpe thousand more times and talking it over with my co worker, I FINALLY get it now. I had to work it out myself to see it.

they randomly change what the answer is so it seems like there's no way they could know it was "a box of chocolates", when on your last try, your gift was "wrist watch". 9, 18, 27, etc were all "wrist watch", and anything from 10-19 is going to be 9, 20-29 is going to be 18, 30-39 is going to be 27 etc, so yeah, there's no way you'll pick anything else other than those 9 numbers and they mix up what the answer for all of them will be to make it different every time.

thanks, B.

Post Re: screw that card game mindreader, how does this work?!
Correct. They are all mutiples of 9

IF you pick any number between 70-79 the result will always equal 63
(79-7-9=63, 78-7-8=63 and so forth.)

If you pick any number between 60-69 the result will always equal 54
(68-6-8=54 so forth)

Any number between 50 thru 59 the result equals 45

Any number between 40 thru 49 the result equals 36

and so forth.

yeah. no matter what number you pick in the beginning, your number answer will always be a multiple of 9, so they just give all of those numbers (9,18,27,36, etc) the same gift. the gift changes each time you play. so it seems more random and hard to follow.
