TV comedy in Japan is 99% crap.
The King of Japanese comedy is probably Shimura Ken,
but as he is on a par with, say, England's Benny Hill ...

Taking up half of one show, if I remember, this came as a complete surprise.
Unfortunately the only upload I can find is almost unwatchable.
Not only did the dickbutt who recorded it film it off his TV screen,
but he CUT OFF THE ENDING!
(He then apparently went away & wrote a thesis or something on how it had inspired some vidya game that only weeaaboos have ever heard of, completely failing to notice it's similarity to Portishead's short film "To Kill A Dead Man".)

DVD releases:

5 compilation DVDs of skits from Vermilion Pleasure Night were released in Japan, as well as a repackaged feature-length compilation titled "THE COLOR OF LIFE", which recycled much of the same content though also contained some bonus material as an incentive for collectors.

The US releases (published by ADV Films) paired up these DVDs into 3 volumes:

Vermilion Pleasure Night Vol.1: OpticErotica ("GOLD" + Japan volume 2)
Vermilion Pleasure Night Vol.2: VoxStimuli (Japan volumes 3 & 4)
Vermilion Pleasure Night Vol.3: Créme de la Créme (Japan volume 5 + "THE COLOR OF LIFE")

There is also now a "Complete Collection" on the same imprint.

I have had the first two of these for a while, I used to play them on screen if clubs had that kind of set up, people used to trip out on them or more recently ask if they were old navy commercials in japan because of the mannequin skits. I like the coke dealing alien personally.

man, it's probably been 7 years or more since I had watched any of these! I agree that most of the comedy can be passed up but this short run series was a must-see
