Best shipping options by post from the US to Hong Kong.
I have something from the US to be sent to Hong Kong and want to send by post.
Which is the best and cheapest way to send with registered mailed to my doorstep? Is that still called EMS in the USA? Just need to advise options cos the sender will pick FedEx and I don't think that is the cheapest yet still safe way of sending. It's like $80US!
Its for a custom toy, so its not like big canvas or anything like that. Thx

Yea, send it by EMS. Should be way less than what you're quoted using FedEx.

EMS is the only door to door trackable option offered by the USPS. However, it's very expensive now. If your package has any weight or size at all, EMS could be $40-$50 or more.
I'd still use it over FedEx or (god forbid) UPS or DHL.

I'd still use it over FedEx or (god forbid) UPS or DHL. yep, it can be costly, but it's definitely better than the others. i recently sent something to australia and it was just under $50, but boxes to Japan still hover around $30-40 (don't quote me on that...the USPS seems to change every day)

I generally have things sent First Class Mail International. Never had one of those go missing, but even if that happens one day, it will be worth it, as I've probably saved a total of $500 (more?) by limiting use of Global Priority and EMS. USPS rates are approaching European shipping rates, even though oil (and jet fuel) cost less than 1/2 of what they did last year.
I wish Super7 would offer FCMI as an option. Other options are absurdly expensive, even for a single vinyl figure. Who the hell wants to pay $20 to ship a RxH mini?

Yeah i stopped buying from S7 when they changed their shipping options back in the day. I remember Josh was nice enough to help me keep the figures until I had a medium box full but I really wanted the new figures in my hands than have to wait a few months. In this case, I will do the EMI because its a pair of customs I don't wanna lose or let some posty add to his collection.

They're still good about keeping store boxes, which is great. Otherwise, I don't think I could shop there. $20-$30 to ship a single figure is nutso.
I agree if the local postal system is an issue, EMS is the way to go. I've also had great success with Priority, but that's nearly the same cost these days.

Speaking from Japan to the US, EMS is definitely the way to go for something you really care about. Usually whatever I send air mail takes about a week to get to the States, but sometimes can take up to three weeks if things aren't moving well (on the other hand, sometimes they get there in four days). But EMS is quick, trackable, and has insurance (although I've heard the insurance is pretty much a joke if you actually try to claim it). Also, it seems like stuff sent by EMS sails through customs while air mail sometimes take a little bit longer.

I shipped my Larvagon to VELOCITRON via USPS EMS. It cost me $31 and change for 1 Larvagon. It was insured and trackable and it got to Japan in time for the show. Conversly, I had a package shipped from Japan to the US using SAL. It was way cheaper but it did take a bit of time but still not too bad. I think it was just over a week that I waited for it.
