 The Walking Dead television series!!!!
So psyched!!!! Huge fan of the comic book and Kirkman. Mad Men, Breaking Bad and now The Walking Dead..... AMC is becoming a powerhouse. info: Quote: AMC's Joel Stillerman says, "Robert Kirkman has created a world in The Walking Dead with real characters, real human emotion, and great stories that paint a very smart, sophisticated, and layered picture. In that respect, this is the quintessential AMC version of a property like this, and I think that is what makes these books resonate for so many people. To have world class filmmakers like Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd bring this to life here is brilliant. AMC strives to make shows that play like movies, and their visual and storytelling sensibility will fit perfectly with that creative approach."

Sa-wa-Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!! A Zombie TV show NEEDED to be made. What makes it better is it's based on a FANTASTIC comic, I'm so excited! I'm also glad they're not trying to cram it into a movie, it's nice with TV because they can drag it out.

Any guesses on casting? I always imagined Aaron Eckhart as a cool Rick.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I have to admit being out of the comic book loop for at least a decade, maybe more, but I'm definitely going to look into getting these comics (I saw they have three hard cover editions which is the whole series- as opposed to finding all 63 issues) because I LOVE zombie apocalypse stuff. Want to see this tv series (might have to actually get cable) also.
EDIT: oh wait there are more than three.....
Speaking of zombies, still waiting to hear more on the World War Z film....hope they don't mess that up. The book was great.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I read a LOT of comic book titles and I can truthfully say that The Walking Dead Is my #1 favorite book I read. i f they screw this up I'll know in the first episode and I'll be out of there. This story is character driven and if they just go for the gratuitous zombie attack every episode and don't focus on the human aspects of the story they will do it a great disservice. The true horror in the story comes from the actions/reactions of a group of people dealing with a world gone mad.I love this comic book, I love the paper it's printed on even the smell of it. The drawing is top notch and the whole book moves at an amazing pace, like the frames of a film. I love that it is in black and white, something they should definitely think about for the series, but I doubt they will. I'm highly skeptical of them pulling this off but will keep a kernel of hope and my fingers crossed that by some chance it will turn out great.

SPOILER The death of Lori and that frame with the babys arm was and still is paralyzing.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
So my awesome g/f got me all 4 hardbook volumes (5th is coming out in Jan 2010) for my birthday. Breezed through them in two days. Pretty awesome, can't wait to see if they do a series on this. I do have a few complaints about the comic but they're minor, I.E.- Why Rick constantly has to go out leaving Lori and his kid to worry 24-7, sure he's the leader but some of those trips...and WHY did the group not just decide to go to a less populated area? From what I gather they were outside Atlanta an hour tops. too many zombies man, you gotta head for the hills.

I actually have all the individual comics and bought the hardcovers too. I lone them out to friends who I can trust not to read them while they're eating PB&J. As far as Rick's actions go. He was a cop. In their crazy topsy-turvy world I would imagine trying to hold on to just a little bit of what was, some crust of what one use to identify with, might help maintain some connection with a reality that on a day to day basis is escaping them. One of my favorite things about this book/series is that I am constantly surprised and often shocked at what happens next. I don't even try to figure out where this is all going because I know as soon as i think so-and-so might happen I'll be in for something totally out of left field.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Bring this thread back up because October 2010 is almost here and this series is looking amazing. I'm almost thinking of getting cable to watch it (instead of online like I did the entire Breaking Bad series): http://blogs.amctv.com/the-walking-dead/

high hopes from production photos and direction/production staff. i'm only through the second hardcover edition but i'm a big fan of its characters and its ambitious design.
for good tv, cable is well worth it. the uselessness outnumbers the quality by far but it's nice to be able to see stuff live or on demand.

Why pay twice? That blog is great, didn't know about it. Can't wait for this show to hit. Looks like Dexter won't be the only show I'm watching now.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Not sure if it was mentioned here, but the series is almost entirely being filmed in Atlanta. I have some friends that will be zombie extras. They were doing casting calls for zombies up to just a month or two ago.
I'm also a huge fan of the Walking Dead and can't wait to see the series. From the production stills, it looks to be true to form.

http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/whats-alan-watching/posts/comic-con-interview-frank-darabont-on-amc-s-the-walking-deadthis is an interview from tonight at sdcc where i guess the pilot is screening tomorrow. it sounds like they might be taking the first book pretty slow, and even though it's vague it's good to hear the enthusiasm the showrunner has for the project. six episodes is a damn short season, we'll likely feel left wanting.
