PC Woes... anyone gimme a hand?
I just got laid off and my homie gave me a pc that needed some reformatting. I did so and forgot to print the list of drivers and gear on the machine before I reformatted. I am now the proud owner of a PC that has no drivers for its ethernet controller hereby bricking any internet goodness i need (on the wifes Mac). Anyone give a brother a hand? The Ethernet Controller seems to be a part of the motherboard thats an ASUS P5GC-MX. I downloaded the latest LAN drivers off the ASUS website and installed to no avail. Any ideas? Ive been on a mac for the past 3 years and forgot all my PC chops. Thanks!

You may need to download drivers for the Motherboard, ie its North and South Bridge connectors and whatnot before the Nic Card will work.

Re: PC Woes... anyone gimme a hand?
What operating system are you using?
You can :
1) try installing an additional NIC card with known drivers, just to get it up on the internet. But don't BUY one. Snake one from another computer or a friend's computer. If you know anyone with more than 3-4 computers then they likely have a few spare NIC cards.
2) use a "live" Linux CD like Ubuntu. When I boot to this disc on a computer it can tell me what the built-in NIC "card" is (manufacturer and model) even though the disc may not have the drivers. It will be easier to then find the latest drivers from the NIC card manufacturer, not the motherboard manufacturer.
