New Chocolate Chu-Hi from Asahi, & Chocolate Beer from Sapporo.

(Actually the Beer is a collaboration with Royce,
a well-known Hokkaido chocolatier.)

4% on the Chu-Hi, 5% on the beer.
Pretty much normal.
Also, the Beer is 50kcal, and the Chu-Hi 66,
which is just a leetle above average I think.

The Chu-Hi looks like chocolate milk & tastes ...
well, like someone spiked your chocolate milk.
Kind of icky.
Def won't be drinking that one again

The beer on the other hand looks and tastes a bit like a brown ale
with a rich, but not overpowering, chocolatey aftertaste.

Rogue's chocolate stout is unbelievably good. When I lived in Oregon, some friends and I drove to the brewery in Newport. Having that beer on draft was the capper to an amazing beer fueled evening.

I'm all for Young's and Rouge but the best Chocolate beer I ever had the pleasure of consuming was in New Zealand: Speight's Chocolate Ale, made with Cadburry chocolate (both Speight's and Cadburry have factories in the same town of Dunedin).
I think it was super limited easter/spring seasonal only available at the main brewery/brew pub.

when did they start canning chu-hi?

They've been canning chu-hi for a long time....decades, at least. It's dangerous as they look harmless, but some can get up to 8%!

I never noticed them in the combini when I was in Japan...but then again, I didn't know so I wasn't looking. I guess I know what I'm stocking my fridge with next time I go to Japan

How much is the chocolate beer from Sapporo?

I read on a blog it was like 17usd for a three pack (not sure what size cans exactly).
I definitely would buy some of the Sapporo variety if I could.

hmmmmm choco beer sounds yummy. never had it. so when you get drunk, do you end up belligerent and horny at the same time?

Guinness for sure! Never let Bud anywhere near your lips, or your ice cream.

I ma usually a hefe-wiesen or IPA/Pale guy but I wish they had that state side, I'd love to try it.
I just love beer... radishes, tofu and good beer are the main components to my fridge
